If the high in the GOM remains in that position, all of the moisture will ride clockwise around it. Should get a decent rain come Saturday.

This didn’t happen quickly. Al Gore predicted this.

Mountains of Mexico gonna feast on it and it'll eventually get drawn up into the western storm system that starts moving east Fri/Sat.

Baton Rouge remains dry with a ridge overhead this weekend.

Acapulco used to be a beautiful resort town…then drug cartels took it over and I haven’t heard of anyone traveling there in the past two decades.

Sheesh. And now it’s a 5. Good luck Acapulco. That’s a rough ride.

There will be a large exodus of Acapulco residents heading to the US after this storm is over with. Terrible for those impacted by the storm.

There's garbage and there's missing any possibility of RI here. I struggle to remember such a catastrophic miss.

The upper level pattern has looked dangerous for days on the models but nothing developed it as far as I can tell. Some hurricane models started to bite once the GFS initialized the storm but it was far too late by then.

At least, that seems to me to be what happened here.

It is worth noting this would be the first time on record a Cat 5 made landfall on the western coast of Mexico.

I went there about 10 years ago. It’s a fricking dump. This storm will probably wipe it off the map. Between the wind and the mudslides, it’s going to be awful.

Josh Morgerman is missing this one, so that tells you how big the miss is.

But wait, are we going to send the US Navy down there to do relief efforts? Of course we are. To thank MX for all the great work they've done since 2021 in keeping millions of illegals out of... nevermind.
