Speaking only for myself: it's mostly the fanbase. Same with the Dead, Panic, DMB...

That plus my complete indifference to a twenty minute noodle session.

I can respect the musicianship, but lawd I don't wanna listen to it.

People that worry about “fanbases” are douches.

Ill take type ii jamming and improvisation over bands playing their album note for note.

If you never take chances, shite is boring.

I prefer phish from the late 90’s to early aughts, when the funk jamming was thick.

I dont really spend much time listening to them anymore.

Sober Trey lyrics are.

I disagree with Tom Marshall lyrics though for the most part. I always looked at it as a type of painting. Not that I'm comparing them to some of the greats, but their lyrics are kind of like Picasso to me. They're on the surreal/abstract end of the spectrum and sometimes they're really just there to be another instrument in the band.

That said, I don't listen to them much anymore but there was a time in my life where I thought they were an incredible band. Still do in some respects, but I think I'm just to the point in my life that I do like shorter to the point song. Doesn't mean there shouldn't be a space for their type of music though.

I bet more people would like Phish if John Mayer was in the band

I'm not a fan of Phish but it's mostly because I don't care for jam bands. It's just not my thing.

I’ve seen enough disgusting wookie behavior to agree with him on Phish’s fanbase. The phrase ‘the dregs of society’ comes to mind.

Not a Phish fan, but do occasionally enjoy a good jam session. Just don't listen to it regularly.

However, Phish is in good company on this board. If you want the haters to come out of the woodwork, mention any of the following:

Springsteen
U2
REM after the mid-90's
RadioHead
Grateful Dead
Dave Matthews
Neil Young
Green Day
Red Hot Chili Peppers

There have even been threads in the past about "hated bands" that named Led Zeppelin and Rush.

So listen to whatever the hell you like. You know what they say about opinions...

This board skews way too old to even care about Green Day.

super duper mega THIS

the MB was nearly killed early on when the phish bishes (and this term includes widespread pubic and others of their ilk) used it as sort of a teenybopper clubhouse, hijacking every thread to post fanboi worship of their idols -- kind of like the letters section to 16 magazine. Eventually the mods stepped in, but the board has never fully recovered.

I'm not one to throw my status as a war veteran in somebody's face, but I don't expect youngsters to understand what we went through during the Phish-American War.

The vicious sniping, the unbearable torture... Not to mention outside agitators infiltrating and causing dissension, these dirty America-hating hippies calling us horrible names.

I'm not asking for any thanks for my service. Only understanding for what I and my comrades went though.

I like Phish, but I can understand why some people don’t. They have a handful of good songs but most their catalog is kinda boring IMO. Their songs can be kinda goofy and nonsensical.

Having said that I’ve seem live over 50 times, mainly late 90s when i was young and less give-a-shitty. Their live shows are pretty damn amazing.

But I’ve drug my wife to at least 5 or 6 shows and she isn’t a fan. lol so its not everyone’s cup of mushroom tea
