How do you think Omar Speights has played the last two games?

He looks healthy now and do you prefer him starting after seeing him the last two games or do you prefer Whit Weeks?

Penns good though so I’d stay with Penn and speights or weeks . Bottom line is that our d coordinator coached linebackers for the chiefs so he knows better than any of us who needs to be out there and why.

Not sure that anyone on here knows our scheme well enough, has the all 22 , and knows how to evaluate linebacker play, well enough to make a better decision than house .

Saw him make a few tackles, When 40 is on the field I see him all over the field making plays

40 has also gotten out of position which led to big plays. Whit Weeks is going to be a good linebacker for us the next few years but Speights when healthy is the better option right now.

Speights has done the job he’s asked to do since he’s been healthy. He’s not going to standout and hasn’t.
Weeks has the ability to flash when he’s in there but he obviously isn’t as consistent as he should be with responsibilities. (That’s me reading between the lines)
I would have liked to see more of weeks the last two games so he could continue to get reps and get comfy for our final stretch. Imo we will need a rotation of lbrs for the last 3 sec games.
Bottom line is Speights and Penn know what to do, and Weeks is still learning what to do and has at best only focused on one position.

He’s been ok but too often the RB will hit a hole and Speights (or Penn for that matter) just sit in their position or go laterally to meet the RB. They aren’t hitting the back at the line or within 1-2 yards, instead they make the tackle 4-6 yards past the LOS.

We crap on the DL when lot of time they took on the blockers and LBs are just waiting instead of attacking the runner.

He looks good against run heavy teams.

Not so much against the pass

Greg Penn is not good. He might make tackles but his instincts are horrible and he’s slow.

I don’t really care if House coached linebackers, because our defense is absolutely pathetic and he might be the least creative DC I’ve ever seen at LSU.

Better, but still not a stand out. Would like to see him attack runners and be a guy that lays the wood at his weight. Still a little hesitant and not a thumper. We will see if he is better against teams that pass more.

That is the LSUButt opinion

Kelly said in the Mississippi State game, Penn provided what he called a settling factor again.

“He gets guys lined up, communicates very well and that’s a guy we want to keep on the field, so we’ll be moving guys around to complement that and I think the best rotation keeps Greg on the field and then we’ll move guys in and out with him,”

That is Head Coach Brian Kelly's opinion.

DJ Welter used to get guys in position as well then Kendall Beckwith would come in and completely change the game. Then Welter would start again.

I thought that he has played really well. And that's coming from a huge fan of Whit Weeks.

tackles high when he does tackle because he often just holds a guy up for the assisted tackle and he plays laterally instead of down hill. Agree that House knows better than me 1000% but I think he plays because as a unit we just aren't overly talented as opposed to him being good.

The same Brian Kelly that has brought us an elite offense. You will probably be mind blown that you don’t even know how to use Perkins… I’ll give you a hint, he’s an elite safety.

I'd like to see Weeks coming in and rush outside like LSU has done in the past with young LBs. Let his athleticism shine, then next year he takes over in the middle.
