More than 105,000 people packed up their things and left Louisiana in 2022, new Census data released Thursday revealed.
But most of those folks didn’t go too far. The No. 1 destination for people leaving the Pelican State was just across the Sabine River. The Census estimates about 25,000 people made the move from Louisiana to Texas last year.
Continuing that trend, the second most popular state for people leaving Louisiana was another neighboring state: Mississippi. About 10,000 former Louisiana residents went east, while nearly 8,500 went southeast to Florida, which is not exactly a neighboring state, but it’s close.

Even the fourth and fifth most popular destinations stayed somewhat close to Louisiana. About 5,400 people moved from Louisiana to Alabama, and almost 5,000 moved to Arkansas, according to the data.
The least likely destinations for Louisianans leaving the state were Delaware, New Hampshire, Utah, Vermont, and Connecticut.

No wonder I smell corndogs. And here I thought it was just a cold front.

If I ever leave Louisiana, I will consider Mississippi (soon to be eliminating state income tax?), Tennessee, Texas, and Missouri. Where within each state, I do not know, but with the exception of Texas, I would love in my later years to escape the extreme heat, and have a great quality of life.

Most people leaving Louisiana go somewhere not too far from family so not surprising.

Just remind them all of the po-boys, crawfish boils and Mardi Gras and they won't leave. That's the shite we cling to here.

As far as this board goes it seems like it’s mostly Houston metro and Dallas metro areas.
You rarely hear about the hill country or parts of Texas west of Austin which is some really pretty cool places.

Could just be statistical noise, but it's an interesting thought that people from Louisiana seem to avoid change, or if seeking change, seek out extremely incremental change, as opposed to something more significant.
Or it's just that people from Louisiana are, statistically speaking, less wealthy, and can therefore only afford less dramatic moves to similar cost of living areas.
Interesting, regardless.

Well most people typically need a job when they move. Not sure of the corporate opportunities in the hill country.

Why on Earth would anyone want to live in East Texas?
