Second one ive shot that you could feel her very pronounced ribs & pelvis. Killed her in East Feliciana. Anyone else shot one like this?

I had seen in an earlier topic where people were talking about abundance of acorns, but I have not seen this in the Feliciana's. Could be disease or maybe there's just nothing to eat? Curious to know if anyone has seen similar emaciated looking pigs?

probably infested with hook worms.
There is a reason pork was avoided by the jews and arabs.

Is it possible for CWD to cross species?

Or some of those other diseases that afflict sheep (scrapies) or cattle (BSE or mad cow disease?

Not too farfetched as they are all hoofed animals.

A horrifying thought since that would affect many animals.

Any skin lesions? ASF may have finally arrived.

African Swine Fever Virus

When it gets here it is going to hammer the wild hog population.

Domestic as well. Those huge hog confinement places are going to be decimated.

How were the hogs acting before you shot them?

From what I know about the prion diseases (CWD,scrapie, mad cow ) I think it’s very possible hogs could contract it.

Acting normal. Was part of a large group in a field eating acorns under a few oaks. No lesions. Shot north of clinton. Shot one similar in bluffcreek. The one in bluff creek, i strung him up to clean him but realized there was no meat on the backstrap & decided against it. I've hunted pigs for a long time and killed a lot of them. I've never seen emaciated pigs like this. Might be nothing, but definitely not normally what I see.

The hogs guts are probably full of worms and the worms are eating it up from the inside.

Joe's people are working on a vax this week. Meantime, we need all hogs to mask up.

I read about a study that was done a couple years ago where CWD was injected into a wild hog and it carried the disease, but at that time there were no known cases of wild hogs catching CWD. Both are hoofed but very different; deer are cervids and ruminants (multiple stomachs). Hogs are the freakin devil incarnate.

Ok, so I don't know about this username. Does that make your nickname Bogman?

Anyway, I think it could be the drought. Their population always seems hurt by the drought. Had an Uncle actually catch some hogs last weekend. He said they were all 50-75lbs and looked pretty scrawny.
