South LA- aeration

Evening, is now a good time to aerate my yard? Yard is in rough condition from this summer. Seems like it’s pretty compacted and a lot of dead areas with thatch.

Pretty late to aerate at this point. Starting to get cool, growth is slowing, and will be going dormant here soon.
Everybody’s lawn took a big hit this year. From the late freeze we had, to the hot, dry summer, and finishing off with some sod webworms. Unfortunately, it’s getting too late to have any real recovery. I’m looking forward to next spring.

hijacking this thread.
I plan to scalp and overseed my centipede with bermuda once temps are right in spring 2024.
Should I aerate after scalping and before sowing?
I read not to plant the seed deeper than 1/4"
thanks

You can try the liquid aeration products, but they don’t really work. More if a supplement every few months after mechanical aeration.

Is this good stuff?

All I know is that I need a better irrigation plan. Tried moving garden hoses around all summer babysitting coverage and I dont have much to show for it. It's either go all in by installing an irrigation system and scalping/overseeding bermuda or letting it ride as is. My yard fits in with the neighbors, which is saying much.

No reason it shouldn’t be - would be expensive compared to bulk compost, but then it’s more likely to be “weed free”. At $4 a bag that’s about $144 cu yd.

Wait till spring grass will be dormant in a month or so wait till it’s growing again

Call Conner at Southern Grasshoppers 225 9338344. He has the best aerification and top dressing equipment in South La. He even gets called to do jobs in Shreveport. Did a great aerification and sand top dressing for my 3/4 acre yard.

Been seeing them advertise on socials. What’s the ball park price for his services ? Based on sq ft?
Where are they sourcing the compost for top dressing ? Not many good sources that sling with his setup available retail that I know.

I have been looking for someone to do this for a while now. I'm in Metairie. Wonder if they come down here.

I’m very interested to see.
I have no clue what that would cost.
$250 per 1k??

The gentlemen referenced above quoted me closer to $800 per acre. Not sure if that’s good or bad. I didn’t commit to it for this year. May consider next year.

Sounds like an absolute steal considering how much you’d have to pay for rentals, the hassle of multiple rentals, and how much time it would take an individual to cover 43,000 square feet.
Must be nice to own all that equipment!

What did that $800 acre include?
