Or is there nothing he can do?

Hopefully not. Governor already has too much power in this state.

Ok, but didn’t it come down to JBE taking the side of Broome and strong-holding the process? Can Landry now side with St. George and allow the incorporation

I have no idea, but that’s one issue with the state. Governors have too much power. That needs to change.

I hope he brings back the Death Penalty. Too many murderers have gone long without the proper punishment for their heinous crimes.
Old "Honor Code" was all set to take these maggots off of Death Row...Why?
Time for any murderer too meet his or her maker shortly after being found guilty. Forget if the method is inhumane..hell, what they did was inhumane!

No, it came down to St. George losing at trial court level then that ruling being affirmed by 3 GOP elected judges on the La 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

I know people on this board like to blame democrats and rinos for all the ills of the world, from poverty, and crime to irritable bowel syndrome and thinning hair; but the Governor had nothing at all to do with this.

... after a single democrat sued thousands of people for casting their vote in an election. A democrat that is a metro councilman who owns a home in another district where his wife still lives, but he lives in an apartment inside his district. But let's not lose focus here.

It’s a legal proceeding. He has no authority.
What he could do is encourage the legislature to change the laws to make it easier, and sign such a bill, allowing the proponents to try again.
But just like the Latoya recall, tbe people in charge screwed it up.

Well right now we have a freaking mayor blocking the will of the people. She has a conflict of interest here and it needs to go to someone else.

True but...

Broome and allies changed the law just to screw with St. George. That's the part that tripped the proponents up. Just get a majority vote to change it back to what it was (what it was for Central, and every other municipality before then) hold another vote and they win.
Should be easy, just time consuming.
BTW-that's why the "they should have just done what Central did" criticism rings hollow. They had to use a new law that had never been interpreted before that was designed to stop them. Central didn't have to deal with that. And to be clear, I don't live in St. George.

I'm going to be the first mayor of St George, maybe.

I’m no legal scholar, but the Appeals Court did not affirm the ruling. They actually sided with SG and ruled that Broome had no legal standing. Only Cole did.
Unfortunately, they went back and said the actual petition people signed years ago wasn’t detailed enough and thus the entire desl was null and void.

Actually he did. He ordered the matter be placed on the ballot.

Did not stop JBE from getting involved and making it difficult for the democratic process to go forth. he has definitely strong armed judges for the Dem party.

We voted at the ballot box and won. Now I'm planning on voting with my feet. I just have to live for the next 10-12 years without being murdered here so I can get the frick out.
I take solace in the fact that St George wouldn't have saved BR anyway. It might have been a nice bandaid that would have bought us another 10, 15 years. But this state is doomed. Don't be caught without a backup plan when you have to flee somewhere down the road.
We're all just a carjacking or burglary away here and just waiting. Just try to make the collateral damage as little as possible.

He can’t overrule the courts.
He can, however, fast track state approval of any new petition and start fricking with BR and EBR Parish for them playing dirty on this.

I hate JBE, but he didn’t stop St. George, and he did everything he was required to do. He affirmed the petition, set a reasonable date for the vote, and once it passed he signed the transition.
Now where Landry will help is he will get to pick the first mayor and set a date for the election of the new mayor. JBE likely would have chosen someone who would have been favorable to him and his party.
