Rolling Stone published its original list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists in 2011. It was compiled by a panel of musicians, mostly older classic rockers.

Our new expanded list was made by the editors and writers of Rolling Stone.

Their lists have been hot garbage clickbait for a while.

You mean Tom Morello isn't really a better guitarist than Eric Clapton, SRV and David Gilmour?

Trash list. Just what I expected from Rolling Stone. Woke tomfoolery.

I love Joni Mitchell but the notion she is the 9th best guitarist of all time is laughable, as is this list, as is Rolling Stone.

no doubt, but Billy strings should be on the list if Molly Tuttle is on the list

otherwise it’s just a list of great guitarists all of whom deserve to be celebrated. The order in which they are listed is pretty irrelevant

yeah some of the rankings make very little sense unless they are taking things like cultural impact into account. i mostly was interested to see what modern players or deeper cuts would be included.

I know they have Eldon Shamblin which doesn’t surprise me and is deserved, but Bob Wills’ best guitar player was Junior Barnard, he was bending them strings and overdriving his amp when Hendrix was in diapers in Seattle.

I knew better than to look at that list. Rolling Stone is such a POS.

Where'd James end up? Should be an easy top 5 IMO, though I know that won't be the case.

As usual, a lot to disagree with. I haven’t made it all the way through yet, but Steve Lukather at 186 is a crime against music.

ETA: Tom Morello ahead of Gilmour, May, Clapton, SRV.

ETA: The absence of Ty Tabor from King's X is an insult.
