What a shite list. Billy Strings, Glen Campbell, Chet Akins and Roy Clark are not in the 250 yet at least half of those on the list nobody has ever heard play. Laughable.

Atkins is somewhere in the top 50.

Chuck Berry was influential at one time, but he's not a top 250 guitarist. Very rudimentary.

And where's Glen Buxton from the old Alice Cooper band? On the last list he was something like 96 or 97. I don't see him here at all.

Perhaps these "theys and thems" have never heard of Ace Frehley and Ted Nugent.

Nugent is an underrated guitarist, absolutely. Frehley is a joke unless you weigh the "influence" garbage heavily.

Trash list. Just what I expected from Rolling Stone. Woke tomfoolery.

Yep, but Rolling Stone has a history of various biases within these lists and they seem to always change. Sometimes it's recency bias, sometimes it's nostalgia bias, sometimes it's popularity bias, sometimes it's antiestablishment bias, sometimes it's counter-culture driven bias, and sometimes it's cause de jour driven. The cause de jour would be why Joni Mitchell is #9. I'm not saying she doesn't deserve recognition but #9?

Mark Knopfler is #96. A few guitarists who are considered better according to Rolling Stone that I personally disagree with:

Willie Nelson
Joan Jett
Robbie Robertson
Bonnie Rait
The Edge
Johnny Ramone

I have a question for guitarists out there, am I way off base on these? They are good but are they really better than Knopfler?

Ultimately, these lists are sort of dumb because it is so subjective. Particularly dumb is a list this long. Stop at 10 or 25 at most, and list the also considered.

Joan Jett wasn't even lead guitarist in her own band... I would presume Willie & Bonnie weren't either

Robbie Robertson

is way below her on the list, even though she was the lead in the RUnaways and IMO an obviously better guitar player than Joan Jett.

I am familiar with Robertson, this is simply a case of me not thinking he is better than Knopfler. But I am not a guitarist so can only say that based on what I like hearing vs knowing anything about technique, etc. I could easily see someone liking Robertson as much based simply on taste.

You are not off base. None of them are close to Knopfler.

the guy that Jimi Hendrix said could do things on the guitar that no one else could is not on the list of the 250 greatest guitarists of all time? lol...

Terry Kath should probably be Top 30 at least, and doesn't even make the list (unless I skimmed too fast and missed him)

I know they have Eldon Shamblin which doesn’t surprise me and is deserved, but Bob Wills’ best guitar player was Junior Barnard, he was bending them strings and overdriving his amp when Hendrix was in diapers in Seattle.

Alas, I have no more upvotes to give.

He's not there and neither is Gary Moore.
