why would you not be willing to pay a 30 year old pitcher through age 37 knowing that you get 3 extra "prime" years?
I personally wouldn't want to sign a pitcher over 30 who has already had TJ to a 7 year deal myself, particularly when they missed a good portion of the most recent season injured with forearm tightness.
There is significantly more risk in a 7 year deal than 3, no matter who the player is. But I'm just going by AA's actions really with my thoughts on going after Wheeler (plus the whole Georgia connection thing) I, not what I would do. It's pretty clear AA is super risky adverse to long term deals to pitchers over a certain age. And given the history of said deals, he has good reason to be.

Having one TJ should be no reason to be scared off.

I mean yeah, but if you're in the "only give out contracts to sure things" business, you're in the wrong business.

I get they were discounts, but we give out long contracts all the time. We risked having a guy get hurt and give us nothing on a not insignificant amount of money for a long, long time. Or in some cases risk a guy having a Heyward type career and his peak coming early.

I still think the blisters are a factor here as well. I think Max is a great pitcher but this has been an issue for his entire career and he has said that the humidity exacerbates this problem.

Looks like Fried agreed to a deal to avoid arbitration. Not earth shattering news but trends positive.

No 1% to the Braves Foundation?

I wonder if he signed a ‘team friendly deal’?
Posted on 1/12/24 at 11:38 am to 21zereaux
I will be curious to see how he does once we are in rebuild mode.

Every year is rebuild mode which is why the Braves are solid to good most of the time. We just signed the #1 international prospect. That’s a greater coup than resigning Fried yet it will go unnoticed for 2-3 years and then all of a sudden the Braves will have a top 5 prospect that we can call up for years. Just because AA rebuilds while winning doesn’t mean he isn’t. You don’t have to lose 100 games to rebuild.

Whats wrong with what I said? Didn't imply he would do well or do poorly.
Actually say something productive or frick off dude, seriously. No wonder everyone downvotes everything you say

We both know thats not what I'm talking about. A full rebuild is different from adding to a team with an extremely cheap core that should make things easy.
Posted on 1/12/24 at 12:28 pm to VolSquatch
Well with the way the Braves are built we won't even have to worry about a rebuild for at least a decade.

Big news, Charlie Culberson invited to spring training as a pitcher

Everyone knows you're an alter. And I'm not here to be liked. It's a message board for God's sake.

Holy shite, no, signing a 17-year-old who may or may not wear a Braves uniform is not a greater "coup" than re-signing arguably the best LHP currently in the game.
We get it, you think Fried is overrated, but stop tying everything that we do as reason for you to establish your hatred for Fried.
