Well yeah
Which is why it's foolish to think something that was the case 100, 200, 500, 1000 years ago is the way it should be now and the way it will be if some neck bearded utopia is realized.

So, it seems like the Israeli bombing has stopped? I haven't heard of any significant bombing in the last 24 hours except the Pals bombing themselves.

Nothing and everything at the same time, they consider themselves freedom fighters trying to rid their country of invaders.
I think it was stupid as they have about 0% chance of success and are just getting folks killed but I am able to understand their motives whether I agree with them or not.
Israelis want a Jewish homeland, Palestinians want their land back as it was not Britain's to give and the world spins round and round.
That ship sailed a hundred years ago, and the return leg was cancelled by multiple wars where Israel's neighbors tried and failed to take it back.
It's become clear to me that for this conflict to end, either the Palestinians simply become Israeli citizens, they get relocated, or the fight to the death. They don't want their own state because they will never accept Israel on what they see as their land.

I have to say Biden’s speech in Israel was fantastic. His speech writers better described my concern with invading Gaza whole hog.
“Since this terrorist attack — terrorist attack took place, we have seen it described as Israel’s 9/11. But for a nation the size of Israel, it was like 15 9/11s. The scale may be different, but I’m sure those horrors have tapped into so- — some kind of primal feeling in Israel, just like it did and felt in the United States.
Shock, pain, rage — an all-consuming rage. I understand, and many Americans understand.
You can’t look at what has happened here to your mothers, your fathers, your grandparents, sons, daughters, children — even babies — and not scream out for justice. Justice must be done.
But I caution this: While you feel that rage, don’t be consumed by it.
After 9/11, we were enraged in the United States. And while we sought justice and got justice, we also made mistakes.
I’m the first U.S. president to visit Israel in time of war. I’ve made wartime decisions. I know the choices are never clear or easy for the leadership. There’s always costs.
But it requires being deliberate. It requires asking very hard questions. It requires clarity about the objectives and an honest assessment about whether the path you are on will achieve those objectives.”

Palestinians might as well plan on becoming an arab version of a never ending renaissance festival and go be a Bedouin tribe of old in the southern desert because as shitty as Gaza is now, it won't be a self-governing home for long.

ETA: reminder, the VP is not in the chain of command, so technically he has never made wartime decisions, only advised those who did... poorly.

Seems like a pause to reassess. Still occasional rocket out of Gaza. Looks like they are lobbing the homemade ones and saving the Iranian supplied ones because their accuracy, which was never good, has dropped off significantly. Some are landing in the Med.

The only wartime decision he made as president was to run from Afghanistan. The costs were the people and weapons he left behind.
Choices are never clear or easy for people with dementia.

Other than the bullshite about being a war time president, his speech is pretty spot on…. While leveling Gaza for the sake of revenge and to ‘eradicate’ hamas might feel good in the short term… there will be a hefty cost.

I know they used them successfully in the iran-iraq war, but that stuff is old and those pilots are all old as well. I imagine any air force with a functional logistical network takes care of all that stuff with minimal losses.

Donald Trump made that decision. Biden followed through on the Trump Administration's plan.
This post is 100% factual and clearly documented, but it will be met with dozens of downvotes because of denial.

quote:Lots of over the top reactionary posts in here without seeing the big picture. Half of the Gaza population is under 18 and weren’t even born when Hamas was elected. Maybe there’s hope with future leadership in ousting Hamas but who knows. The conditions the youth were raised in in Gaza likely only intensifies their animosity towards Israel. Plus, whatever propaganda Hamas has been trying to pump out their entire lives. It’s a shitty situation and both sides only continue to make it shitier.
Palestinians are trash incapable of self rule. That's why no Arab country wants anything to do with them.

Yes, I'm sure it would have gone exactly the same way had Trump been in charge of the exit from Afghanistan
