Since they’ve both taken over at their respective schools: Brian Kelly: 13-6 with 5 ranked losses to FSU (x2), Tennessee, Georgia, and Ole Miss. One unranked loss to A&M.

Marcus Freeman: 14-5 with 3 ranked losses to Ohio State (x2) and USC, two unranked losses to Marshall (lol) and Stanford.
*losses sorted by end of the season rankings for 2022 games

Let’s take into account the drastically different situations the two coaches took over. BK took over a 6-7 team with less than 40 scholarship players on it.

Freeman took over a 11-2 team. And the 2024 recruiting cycle isn’t over, let’s compare 2023.

LSU was 5th, ND was 10th on On3 LSU was 6th, ND was 12th on 247sports.

Are the defensive results of this season acceptable? No.

Will they be addressed? Yes.

I can deal with losses.

I can’t deal with watching an lsu defense that either doesnt know the fundamentals, or is incapable of executing fundamentally sound defense.

I swear to christ, if i go another week without seeing a SINGLE LSU db turn and look for the ball im going to go insane.

ETA: more so than i already am

Will they be addressed properly is the better question.

Also, if the program is going to take everyone's time and money, they are gonna have to take the criticism that comes with it when your defense is HISTORICALLY bad.

Yup. I think some fans don’t think it all the way through. If they really want LSU to win, they should temper their words.

Criticism is fine, and necessary. But going overboard with it can hurt the program you are supposedly rooting for.

The recruiting cycle is not over, true, but there is nothing that leads us to believe that Kelly and company is going to turn things around. They are already at 24 commits with all the big players done and many of the top players committed elsewhere.

He's simply not a very good recruiter even with the LSU advantages compared to Notre Dame.

He will continue to try and find some small school players to transfer in that aren't P5 level, and then claim LSU is just about a year away next year.

Cool. Now explain why we should give a shite how he compares to NDs coach? I didn’t want Marcus Freeman as a HC.

Think Florida State was unranked in 2022 season opener.

So..."as long as we are better than Notre Dame, it is all good" is where we are as a program?!?

I mean as of now Notre Dame is in a better spot than LSU both on the field and in recruiting. Until LSU surpasses Notre Dame I’m not sure that LSU fans really have any room to talk.

Why compare Kelly to the new ND coach? LSU has to worry about winning games in the SEC, also Marcus Freeman is a rookie HC. Kelly has been a head coach for years now and since coming to LSU all of his losses are blowouts

Brian Kelly has been a head coach in the NCAA since 1991, for reference Marcus Freeman was BORN in 1986

When? By whom? In what manner?

After Saturday, it's hard to invest confidence on any level with this staff.

To counter Mikie, Freeman is in what his 2nd year as a HC? And CBK is in year 33. And yet he's (we're) making rookie mistakes.

Most fans were incredibly excited and supportive of the job Kelly did last season.

This year they expectations relative to last season were, justifiably so, much higher. That wasn't just "delusional" LSU fans. Objective observes/analyst felt that was as well considering LSU was ranked 5th to start the season and was among the top 10 in odds to win the NC. Those rankings/odds don't guarantee success. But they do give a perspective of the wider perception of the team heading into the season.

LSU then lost to FSU. It was a disappointing way to begin the season. But at least most could justify that FSU is also a really good team.

Last Saturday night though is a different story. LSU scored 49 points, on the road, and LOST because their defense gave up 55 points and allowed the most yards to be gained by an opponent in a game in the 130 year history of LSU football. Ole Miss isn't a bad team. But I think you'd be hard pressed to find ANY coach who would tell you scoring 49 points on the road and losing is justifiable.

In the big picture has Kelly done a "bad" job at LSU to date? No. But in no way does, or should it, excuse what is right now a complete coaching failure on the defensive side of the ball.

Two separate truths can co-exist. Kelly hasn't done a bad job overall. Yet, the coaching staff has done a horrible job with the defense thus far in this season.

LSU gave up 2x the yards Tulane gave up to Ole Miss. That’s not as much about scholarship players or what you inherited - it’s about shite coaching imo.

I’m not sure what his point is.

No one cares about what Marcus freeman is doing at Notre dame or what Notre dame or Marcus freeman is doing.
