have figured out that's basically society now in a nutshell. People in power will only hold those who care responsible, and have all but admitted the lower class can do whatever they want.

It’s sad when you realize it. And also realize you can’t really do anything about it either.

There wasn’t a walk in clinic in the area instead of going to the ER for a non emergency?

6PM on a Sunday in Lake Charles. There is no Urgent Care available. Lake Charles for what it thinks it is, it isn't. It's a small one-horse town.

I’ve never had a hospital accounting/billing office not at least offer a payment plan. And typically at a discounted rate

OLOL offered me a payment plan last year, but there was no reduction in bill. It ended up that on the payment plan i would still have to pay like $500 per month.

yep, all hospitals, clinics, offices, etc. are flexible as can be and offer payment plans, OP said his wife worked in the hospital system? she should know this unless she's a bed pan cleaner or something similar

Yeah, that's great. So me and the homeless can get equal level benefits yet my taxes are paying for it. He nuts off on park benches.

That may be so currently but it's not so in your face.

There is always socialized medicine where you wait 6months for that Head CT to rule out glioblastoma.

I'm out the US again on assignments and I'm once again reminded how ridiculously overpriced US Healthcare is. It's fricking absurd to the point that my current insurance provider will cover my Healthcare costs for every country except the US. Good job America.

The Obese and Illegal Immigrants who use Hospital Emergency rooms as primary care doctors are making healthcare costs skyrocket. Eliminate those two groups and Healthcare costs would go significantly down.

Still better than having the govt in charge of your healthcare

Herein lies the problem. I truly believe that all these other countries actually get better health and wellness care than we do here in the US. We have great hospitals if you're really sick. Our current system is truly completely broken.

Problem is that the government cannot be trusted to properly handle all those $$$ for healthcare for all of us.

I mean we can, and probably will eventually. History has shown that, when the masses are pushed too far, heads roll.

We need to stop being the world police, and let these countries actually have to pay for their own defense. I can promise that, once we stop subsidizing their lifestyles by protecting them and the shipping lanes, a lot of those cool perks go away.

It’s because “health insurance” is no longer actually “insurance.”

It’s just a way to take the $1.00 you would pay your doctor with, put it through the hands of 12 different companies, each of whom take a few cents out of it, and then give $50 cents to your doctor.

Diamond Dog and Chef Curry, spot on. And eventually we will go to a national healthcare because the service won’t be any worse, but insurance, big pharmaceutical, and hospitals will not be swimming in cash, and it will be their own fault for fricking the middle class without a kiss.

Totally fricking criminal how hospitals and insurance are in cahoots

You can be mad at hospitals, but they most definitely are not in cahoots with insurance companies. The reason the hospital is trying to collect whatever they can is because there are a lot of insurance companies that do everything in their power to not pay the hospital. A lot.

Most of those counties are paying increased taxes for that insurance.

The rub is that their increased taxes are cheaper than our out of pocket for premiums and monthly insurance cost.

as a lifelong believer in this, is that still true. My recent experiences with my parents tells me that the sickest folks get the worst care.

Information is like pulling teeth.

If only this were true, many only see the benefits and none of the drawbacks of socialized medicine.

Picture having to use the VA for all of your healthcare, that is akin to SM.

And yes our system is broken, but healthcare itself in the US is top notch.

I agree, but guess how much those taxes increase further when they have to worry about paying for their own tanks, making sure ships aren't taken by rogue factions, ect ect.

I am not going to sit here and argue that our healthcare system is great. It's a disaster, some weird unholy union between big insurance, big pharma, and the government that they help get elected. It's also painfully obvious this current form of insurance was put in place to ultimately fail so we could move to single payer.

You're correct to be angry. The poor can access freebees that amount to about $67,000 per year.

That's kinda their job. Scoop up as many clients as they can to get greater bargaining power, then pay out at little as possible is the entire business.

Health insurance companies make insane profits, then spend them lobbying to keep the system in place.

Gross charges are meaningless. People get so bent out of shape seeing them. Nobody is paying $10 for an aspirin.
