Hospitals are private business

Most have a misconception that they exist solely to help hurt and sick people.

They exist to make money.

I am equally angered by your situation.

Well I was fully expecting a relatively large bill, but about two weeks later got a bill in the mail for a total of something like $190 for everything. I called them up and asked if that was run through insurance and the woman said no, they had me marked as no insurance.

This is bringing me to a whole new level of pissed off Like maybe I should present as no insurance. Wait to see what happens and then have the claims filed if a bill comes back.

If you have any normal type of insurance, there is zero chance this was your actual out of pocket. Are you quoting the gross charges on the bill?

they routinely. Routinely EAT MILLIONS of DOLLARS in surgical costs. ROUTINELY see patients with no way to pay and no way to collect.

The problem is they really don't or the cost are inflated to account for the ones who don't pay. If they truly were losing money there would be bankrupt hospitals all over the country. The ones with insurance and who pay in full are offsetting the "losses".

our entire society is built on the balancing act of cards that expects the vast majority of working class people to just suck it up while the leeches suck up more and more resources and politicians laugh to the bank

it’s the same way with anything right now. Pee in public as a homeless person, maybe yelled at. Pee in public as a white 20 year old college student, arrested, jail, $500-$1000 in fines on your record, etc.

Drive around with no insurance no registration no inspection as an illegal immigrant, won’t even get stopped. But make sure you take hours out of our life every year and pay hundreds of dollars to keep your car “up to date” and be ticketed right as it lapses

don’t even get me started on just allowing people to walk out of stores with full shopping carts

could go on and on. there are just no real consequences for people anymore and too many people who just don’t care

We effectively pay the lower class (and now lower middle class) to not revolt.

See this is where I agree.

In business, I see that as a slam dunk.

If someone offers me $.80 on a residual balance timely, where I didn't have to chase them (calls, correspondence, etc.) that's a clear savings in my book. Because it's cash money in pocket after insurance has been paid. There's no further expenditure of resources.

Not for these bunch of Nazis apparently.

Yeah this pisses me off. When I lived in Denver I went to my first Rockies game. I assumed the light rail ran all night, but come to find out it doesn't. I go to plug my phone in as it died so I can call an Uber. Cop yells at me, asking me why I think I can steal electricity. Literally a homeless guy sleeping on a bench with all his shite plugged in, so I point to him. Cop says he can't do anything about that, but I can't charge my phone. I have figured out that's basically society now in a nutshell. People in power will only hold those who care responsible, and have all but admitted the lower class can do whatever they want.

As someone else pointed out, call again and catch someone else. At a minimum, she should have said she'd take the $490 and tell you when the $118 would be due.

quote:

I have primo insurance with a deductible.

I'd imagine anyone saying they have primo insurance, would have a plan with a $0 deductible. When I go to the Dr/Urgent Care/ER... I pay my co-pay and never have to worry about a bill down the road.

Also, if you really want to get pissed. See how much they charged your insurance company, and how much they reduced that bill from the insurance company. Yet are not willing to shave $100 off of your bill

Next time, provide no insurance cards. Provide no identification. Write down fake names. Gain the broken system.

This is not financial advice

Single payer is what we need, like every other country has.

If we could cut some BS spending, we could finance universal healthcare without massive tax increases.

OLOL offered me a payment plan last year, but there was no reduction in bill. It ended up that on the payment plan i would still have to pay like $500 per month.

Yeah, that's great. So me and the homeless can get equal level benefits yet my taxes are paying for it. He nuts off on park benches.

That may be so currently but it's not so in your face.

There wasn’t a walk in clinic in the area instead of going to the ER for a non emergency?
