New Orleans drinking water issue on National News this AM. Guess it’s a real issue?

Turned on the ole TV this morning and the drinking water issue with the low river level is on the national CBS news, corespondent standing by the river with the Crescent City Connection in the background and everything. They did say specifically this isn’t panic time, that they are just bringing awareness.
I haven’t been following this much, and they didn’t mention it in the news report other than they are working with the Army Corps. Talked about building a levee like structure on the bottom of the river to block/slow the creep of saltwater upriver. What I don’t understand why don’t they just divert water at the old river control structure. Less water to the Atchafalaya river, more to the Mississippi. From what I understand in typical situations they maintain about 30% flow rate from the Mississippi into the Atchafalaya, could they not reduce that.
Sure that would probably screw Morgan city a bit, but at this point they should be used to getting the shaft.
I’m sure someone on here probably knows a bit more about this issue than what can be learned on a 5 minute news piece on CBS.

Wwl tv for two weeks has been selling the panic and fear
Today, Dr Hebert came on and said don’t worry it’s fine just keep a little extra water on hand.
CBS national news said climate change is causing this and everyone will die without drinking water in Nola

This shite happens way more frequently than people realize and it’s a nothingness. It is definitely not a new phenomenon.

You mean New Orleans isn't going to be abandoned by 2028?

I think Fox 8 is worse... I'm going to start calling them the Salt Water Wedge news now.

Actually surprised this wasn't edited out.

Of course they did. The saltwater wedge has been a thing as long as he river has been around. I remember my dad talking about it in the 70's, and the news didn't even report on it.
People need to wake up.

They have to point out the obvious: New Orleans has never, ever been exposed to weather events or changes in the river levels in recorded history. If it were, we'd have probably heard about such an event.

These salt wedges have always happened and will continue into the future. It's no big deal. Those brothas are gonna be catching redfish at the Fly.

I believed it was a problem but now that it’s on the National news, I have my doubts.

They also forgot to mention that nobody in N.O. drinks the water from the tap because it has been poisoned since the first petrochemical plants were opened. They all just dumped into the river back then.

Why does the new Media keep dragging this dude into every situation, Retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore what can a retired Army Lt. Gen. Do about saltwater?

Move everyone to Flint.
Seriously though, government, you collect billions in tax dollars. Is to too much to ask for clean drinking water and decent roads to drive on?

Before that. It's been sketchy since fertilizer was first used in midwestern farming.

I was in Costco yesterday and noticed when I got to their lot right at opening time of 10 a.m. that the lot was full.
There was a LONG line inside that ran from the back of the store to the front with people waiting to buy cases of water. From what I could see with people leaving that area, it looks like they are placing a 5 case limit since that is what most carts had in them, but I could be wrong.
It was a PITA negotiating the aisles with people lined up cart to arse of the person in front of them so I got the few things I needed and headed home.

This hasn't happened since 1988.
