16/8 too good to be true?

i have done alot of different diets in my day with various effects on weight loss; my mainstay to drop a few pounds has historically been atkins/keto.

my physician recommended the 'eat between noon and 8pm' and i thought i'd give it a try and i'm down about 8lbs in a month by doing literally....."nothing".

i try to eat well but i'm so conditioned to the rigors of keto that having rice, bread, pasta..a cookie for dessert feels like cheating but it doesn't seem to matter what i eat; the weight is consistently coming off.

that doesn't mean i'm not trying to eat better; but i'm currious what other people have experienced with this particular intermittent fasting routine.

should i expect the weight loss to slow? any other tips or tricks along the way? i feel completely guilty that i'm eating whatever i want between noon and 8pm. doesn't feel like it should work.

eta tl;dr this feels like a lifestyle change; not a gimmick. this is incredibly easy to do; just watch the clock. THE END. if you are getting hungry before noon get busy on something and the next thing you know its 1pm. holidays, tailgating, etc. will all be so much more enjoyable knowing i can participate in whatever without feeling remorse. gotta be a catch to this somehow. i am moderately active; i hit 10k steps a day and between 20-25k steps working in the yard on weekends.

It's just a technique to limit calories, imo. It works for lots of folks. You could get the same basic results making sure to stay in that same caloric deficit throughout the entire day.

Besides my coffee, I basically do this same window, but I could personally still eat plenty to be a fatass if I weren't careful. That's awesome that it's working and seems sustainable for you though.

It works because for most people its simply skipping 1 meal.

So if you are dropping 500 calories a day from your diet, you will likely lose weight, unless you are just eating like crazy for your other meals.

But generally, if you drop 20-30% of your calories per day, you will lose weight.

The funny thing is I don't feel like I ate that much before. Never been much of a breakfast person so it was a no-brainer to try it.

Except the coffee. I'm drinking it black in the mornings now and no matter how many cups I have I'll never get used to it without cream.

Go to a coffee shop and blast espresso shots for a week. Black coffee will taste like water.

When I have done it in the past, it seemingly made my stomach "shrink." I was physically unable to eat past a certain point and became full much quicker.

I just started (on day 3) and I think I’m really gonna benefit from it. Feel a lot better already. I’m very active with work and running but my diet has been awful for going on a year +. My biggest issue is late night snacking and just flat out middle of the night binge eating. It’s just a good way for me to discipline myself and knock off the bullshite late eating . I’m also doing 12-8. Keep up the good work.

I find doing 12-8 in conjunction with putting everything I eat/drink into my fitness pal app keeps me really in line

I use the pay one, I've been doing to so long that I don't really know what the difference between versions are any more. I think it's $50 for the year?

It’s 80 a year or 20 a month. I’ll tinker around with the free one for a bit and see if I like it first. Thanks for the input.

I use the 'Lose It' app.

It's really user friendly and keeps me somewhat honest. It's not going to be 100% accurate.

12/8 works well for me too. It is hard to hit my protein goals (120-150) in basically 2 meals. I am a bit concerned about protein synthesis as well. If I'm absorbing as well..

I’ve been doing an 16/8 for years now and find it to be the easiest way to keep my weight under control. To me it gets easier. I’m never hungry in the morning and it’s easy to not eat. Throw in some exercise in the morning on an empty stomach and you’ll be dropping pounds like crazy.

How much are you trying to lose. The obvious answer is yes, you will eventually stop losing weight.

I've stagnated at 195 (started at 225) and 6'0". I've started in the gym about 4 weeks ago. I'm not dropping weight per se but I do believe I'm converting fat to muscle. If I'm stagnant on weight, but converting fat to muscle I'm alright with the outcome.

A dietician friend of mine says to break your fast with a small portion of protein. Your cell walls are open and receptive after fasting, and they start to close around the first thing you put in your body. Protein is more friendly than carbohydrates as a first source of calories. She says to eat a piece of beef jerky and don't eat anything else for about 30 minutes after that. Then you can start eating whatever you normally would.

Black coffee is essentially calorieless. So drink all you want as long as it's black. I've never drank coffee any other way.
