Any specific recommendations? Am I correct in assuming these are the best product for dealing with mosquitos while camping?

They are all the same. Just get one. The hack you can find on youtube to refill the gas cartridges with butane will save you a chunk of money if you use all the time. I also think there are other sources of the wafers you can find online to save some money on refill wafers.

Great for while hunting but for camping I would spray camp area with permethrin.

Thanks for the reminder to buy refills for this season. Just ordered a 120hr pack. Should be good for the season since I won’t get to hunt in October due to work

Thermocell is the most important piece of hunting equipment after your bow/rifle.

Pro tip - get it fired up before you think you'll need it. Takes a bit to get rolling.

I do some amateur telescoping and take a few night photos here in south Fla... That thing is the only way I can stay out there in my driveway at night

I’m a big flashlight/battery guy. I use a Nitecore EMR10 instead of a thermacell because I have a crap ton of 21700 batteries, I can use it to charge my phone, and I don’t have to mess with the butane. Just sharing a different option.

You said a mouthful. During bow season they’re so bad I will literally turn mine on before walking to my stand. It takes a while to get puffing. Same for later in the season when I know they get bad closer to dark. I’ll turn it on around 5:00.

That’s pretty cool, never seen those before. Costs a good bit more than the thermocell but I feel like you’d save money in the long run not having to buy the butane. I’m too lazy to do the refill hack on the little bottles. I’ll probably pick up the nitecore but I’ll still keep a thermocell as backup.

I use my thermacell a lot, but I’m still not convinced there’s not some placebo aspect to them.

It takes 21700 lithium batteries, so you can just change them if they die. I use 21700s for the EMR10, my headlamp, and my flashlight so i usually have a charger and extra batteries around all the time.
I’ve never come close to running out because I put fresh batteries in before i go anywhere. It says 12 hours and that would seem right to me, maybe a little less if you use the ultrasonic thing and outdoor mode. I don’t use the ultrasonic thing.

Thanks. I love flashlights as well and have a bunch of 21700 batteries. i've never heard of the EMR10 before but will be buying one soon.

I think if you're hunting a ladder stand or climber, etc. it totally depends on wind. In my experience, if you're in a pop up blind or a box blind they are amazing.

I’ve never heard this theory before lol
I won’t go deer hunting without mine. If I’m squirrel or rabbit hunting I’ll spray down with OFF because I don’t think thermocells work when you’re walking. I hunt out of a saddle and I do move my thermocell to the upwind side of my body. If you don’t do that, I don’t think it works. But as long as you’re in the smoke, you’re good.

I have to wonder about it's cancer causing effects. I've wondered about it before, but even more so when I saw the guy on youtube mentioning a chinese version of the blue chemical pads that are "virtually" the same thing.
No fun to think about when you're young, but even less fun sitting in an exam room receiving the news when you're 50.
All I'm saying is, don't use it when you don't have to.

Yeah, there's no way it can be "good" to breath the same stuff that mosquitos hate. I use mine sparingly enough that I'm not worried about it. Not sure I'd want to use one on a patio 3 evenings a week though.
I extensively looked into making my own "wafers" but there was some concern about the same chemicals and mixing and drying, ect. In the end I'd rather just pay a bit more and get the Thermocell brand wafers. And forget about using some of the knockoff stuff from china. God knows what the hell they might be putting in those.
