These issues are interrelated, but I still think the country's achilles heel is cheap, plentiful energy to run American suburbia and that all of the End of Suburbia/peak oil stuff is still looming out there. Fossil fuels/chemical farming also feed 8 billion people and that's going be a problem when they are in short supply, but I'm in the Malthusian camp on that. I also think a monetary system built on infinite growth is doomed to fail at some point.

I agree that an America paralyzed by a collapse and internal civil war would lead to complete chaos abroad. Few realize just how many conflicts the U.S. keeps below the boiling point with our nukes and military.

Russia and Europe would implode into total war.
Azerbaijan and Armenia would immediately fight a war of extinction.
The entire Middle East would fight a massive 3 to 5 fronted war between Shiites, Sunnis, Turks, Kurds, and Jews.
China invades Taiwan
North Korea invades South Korea
Thailand goes to war with Myanmar
All of North Africa goes to war

Oddly enough, the only part of the world that would likely remain stable in this scenario is South America. Those borders simply make too much sense, and they’re far enough away from the chaos to get flooded with refugees.

Malthusiasm is a myth, much like Peak Oil. Innovation has a tendency to continue to unlock greater gains in efficiency, and economics tend to have major implications on how many children families have. These factors mean resources rarely have these malthusian crisis outside of areas of limited geographic scope and time caused by some sort of black swan event (massive supply chain disruptions such as to energy or fertilizer).

Stagflation is far more likely. That’s sorta where I see us going, the way of Japan.

Remember, the growth in population of the world is about to stop and start rapidly shrinking just because of birth rates. Much of the developed world has already started shrinking. Russia, Germany, Poland, and China are already shrinking rapidly. The U.S. has the best birth rates and youngest population in the developed world. Money has to go somewhere, and we’re (despite our faults) the safest bet.

We have no shortage of fuel or food here. The only thing that can threaten the United States is shortages of superconductors (which we are rapidly building out capacity for), and government restricting our ability to access and utilize our own resources.

The biggest challenge worldwide is going to be fertilizer.

This is why I have been investing in gold and silver. I would move to a place with cheap cost of living (Costa Rica) and live like a king. Anyone not stocking up on gold and silver is foolish, it is your only financial protection if the dollar is worthless one day.

Conservatives will survive because they have guns, ammo, and gasoline, and create what the founding fathers created.

It’s the funding mechanism which fails. The federal reserve Jekyll Island Breton Woods goes kaput.

When those LA Purchases cards quit working, they coming for you and your food.

We are probably ok until April 2024 so you’ve got a little time to prepare and form your own moral islands with like minded people.

Also, in addicting to junk silver, you should have some crypto. The internet will continue to function.

There's a lot of options, but this one doesn't seem bad.

Even though this won't happen in our lifetimes, playing out the hypothetical...it's not like something huge like this would happen overnight out of nowhere, so you'd seemingly have time to plan ahead, pull your retirement out and put it into something where you can move to another country and still access it(hate to say it but crypto? lol)

Taking that retirement fund down to a place like CR, I imagine I can get a pretty decent setup there. No clue what I'd do for work going forward, but I think I'd have enough money on hand to figure it out.

Also no clue how establishing citizenship and shite like that works in a small country like that.

Are you talking about the US government? Define collapse. In this scenario, the US still holds it's military assets?

If govt collapses, then that means no incoming revenue which in turn means no troops are paid and no equipment is maintained, or fueled, no ammunition is available beyond what is already in the armories - thus - no military assets to speak of.

When the Soviet Union collapsed, their military went for months on end without pay and with scant provisions. If you were in the right place at the right time, an AK-47 could be had for about $80.00 American cash. (And that was on the high end.) I would imagine it would rapidly devolve into something like that should our government collapse.

2. Things get bad enough that an angry mob effectively overthrows the government in Washington and establishes a new federal government in its place. Some states cooperate with the new government while others back the survivors of the former regime and start a government in exile based in one of those states. There is a long and bloody civil war.
The whole post brought to mind an NBC show from a few years ago, "Revolution". This was close to the story arc of season 1. Before the ridiculous storylines in Season 2. Unfortunately it was ahead of its time. NBC had the Heroes series and Apprentice. Their ratings expectations were way too high. (Journeyman, Timeless, and on FOX Terra Nova) fell into the same situation. Hell, I think the Quantum Leap reboot would've been gone after 13 episodes of it wasn't one big woke virtue signal. (I don't think they will be able to justify it past what they've already shot/almost finished shooting.) A lot of good shows on all networks got hit hard by the writers strike in the late-00s.

Would this prevent the government from paying a $1.2 BILLION ransom to countries who have taken our citizens hostage?
