Rewatched LSU @ MSST

Overall, one of the most impressive performances from a single team this week. I was quite impressed with Coach Kelly and his aggressiveness along with playcalling. Nabers is a legitimate top 15 nfl draft guy. Defensively our front 7 was near flawless. One thing I didn’t like was our run blocking and creativeness when it comes to that. I feel like we need to draw up more pitch plays, counters, and end arounds (like the one with Nabers). Also I’m okay with Clayton returning punts. He doesn’t make mistakes and is a fair catch king, just was hoping anderson would give us some juice on special teams. Ramos is a phenomenal kicker, glad he’s a tiger.
Obviously a huge game this weekend against Arkansas and a chance for LSU to make a statement as a major home favorite.
We are the best team in the west.

Agreed on everything you wrote!

I watched it today for the first time, only thing that bugged me was the goal line play calling lining up in the pistol again. Yeah it worked and was called back by a penalty but idk what they have against qb sneaks on goal line

Seriously. If you are afraid of punishing Daniels or worried about him getting hit bring in damn Rickie Collins and push his arse in.

Idk why folks are still getting bent out of shape over this. Not saying you are, by the way. Our punt returners have been so unreliable that I’ve gotten to the point where if we never sent anyone back there again, I’d be ok with it. I think Clayton has done just fine with what they’ve asked him to do. Just go back there and don’t give the ball to the other team.

I’d like to see them go five wide on the goal line and let Jayden pick to run a dive or a slant/screen

Agreed, specially with perimeter run plays. I’d like to see more of it, even outsize zone

I agree with you, but this is inexcusable for a program with championship aspirations. Punting to LSU should be dangerous, and teams should have to consciously decide if they want to kick the ball to our returner or kick it away from him. And this isn't the only part of special teams that are completely unacceptable at this point.

The whole team exceeded expectations. Likewise opinion about offensive play calling. The defense took some big steps in all phases. Some issues are still the same but overall they are improved.
Week one still really hurts even after these last two W.

Still very curious to see if this is going to free up Aaron Anderson or Hilton for some deep shots going forward with all the attention going to be on Thomas and Nabers going foward.

I don’t see him as a deep threat at all

If our TE could make a block on the bubble screen Anderson might have taken it to the house. Bk was jumping all over him after that play.

I agree entirely. The offensive line has room to improve with run blocking, but I have confidence they'll find a groove with the rotation. They did a great job with pass protection, so hard to poke too many holes with their performance (except Campbell's penalties).
My only concern is the short yardage playcalling. I get it, Daniels thrives in the shotgun, but we have to get more creative here, especially near the goal line. Nothing wrong with getting under center and the classic QB sneak, it can't be any less dangerous than when Daniels doesn't slide. Hell, maybe we try some wildcat with Kaleb Jackson?

Coach is slowly filling spots with the best players. This happens every year and climaxes with the Alabama game. He purposefully will not show his final lineup till then.

Well this is a stupid take.

I agree. LSU has failed miserably on short yardage on the goal line. BK has got to teach his QB/Center how to exchange without a problem inside the 5 yd line, even if it isn't a QB sneak. It makes the defense think that it will be a sneak which opens up more lanes for the RB off tackle. But, the sneak with TE AND RB's pushing the pile in the ez is the easiest and most dependable short yardage play in the history of football. And LSU doesn't use it!!!! If we line up under center and the defense moves inside, the QB can always drop back into the gun and run out of that, but that definitely opens up the possibility for negative yardage, which the QB sneak doesn't. I hope LSU wakes up this before it costs us a very important TD....AGAIN!!!

The only way to improve run blocking is to run it more consistently. There needs to be a drive in a game where the emphasis is to establish the run and impose our will on the D. Once we get Taylor back I'd like to see some 2 TE sets where one is in line and the other at H-back and we try to run outside the tackles.
Get the OL engaged early by letting them tee off. Arkansas would be a good game for this. We should be able to run on their front 7.

quote:Not only that, but if you re-watch the game(s), he fair catches because the kick coverage team is in his face. We don't block. The line drive kick with like 1.4 second hangtime against Grambling, he ran it back like 30 yards. He doesn't have polio...he can run.

We like to motion in our WRs from outside and ask them to block as well. Not sure why bringing more defenders into the box is a good idea, but we continually do it.
