Ultimate Grand Isle Boat

I sold my bay boat last year and bought a bow rider.
Now I have a camp in Grand Isle and Bay St. Louis.
What’s the perfect boat for this?
I’m looking at 23T Contenders, and plan on having a yard build some forward seating.
I think the 240 Cobia already does this pretty well.
What boats can fish trout, fish snapper, and go play at the islands, and can be trailered and launched easily?

24/26’ cat
Twin-V
Worldcat
Prowler
Calcutta
Tideline
Take your pick that fits your budget any of those will get you from snapper fishing in 2-3’seas then back to the bay chasing trout in less than 4’ of water.

I’ve fished GI and Fourchon for many years. If I could buy a new one today, this would be it. I’ve seen some super nice cats I’ve gotten boat envy from. Lots of storage, takes the waves well, twin power, trolling motor dropped in between.
I have an old 20’ Hydrasport Ocean Skiff that I repowered during Covid with a 200 Zuke and added an iPilot, and it does most anything I want to do. I’ll take it 30 miles offshore on a calm day, trout fish in the bay when we want to do that.
Cannot emphasize enough the importance of fuel capacity when looking at boats. I bought mine when I was fishing Venice a lot, and an 85 gallon tank was a selling point.

The new hybrid cats are a great choice but if you have ran mono hulls most of your life the cat handling is an acquired taste. Not in a bad way just different. The problem with mono hulls in the 25' - 30' range is fish box capacity on anything but the flagship fishing boats, Contender, Yellowfin, Bluewater etc. It's a hard to fit large cobia or yellowfin in the fish boxes of most production line boats because alot of manufacturers are prioritizing forward seating and family features over fishing. If I were to do a mono hull my short list would be Contender 25t or 28t, Bluewater 2550 or 2850, Yellowfin 29, Pair marine 24dv or 27. All of these have twin engines can be equipped with trolling motor set ups and still float shallow enough to trout fish in the bay and on the beaches but still have the fuel capacity and fish box space for the fish we encounter on the northern gulf coast.

Blackjack 256 coastal was my lust boat for a long time. After spending a lot more time 0 to 30 miles out of camanada this summer, something 30 to 32' with twins and an ipilot is my new lust. In a few years I'll be back on the 24' bay boat kick. I waffle back and forth a lot. Probably going to keep killing fish with my kenner till I'm an old man.
I'm not a fan of catamarans.

Curious to hear why? I know you fish a bunch and we are obviously fishing the same area if you’re running out of Camanda.

26' twin vee is the boat you are looking for

I’ve caught everything from bream to blue marlin in a 26’ twin vee. And a metric ton of trashy arse kings.

Thought about it all morning and I don't really know why? Maybe I hate them from working on diesels in big cats a few times? Not sure what it is. If I had freeman money, I wouldn't spend it on a freeman. I'd get a big monohull.

LINK PAIR CUSTOMS 24 DV
I just ordered a 24DV. These boats are fantastic. I chose it over Contender 25T, Cobia 262 etc.
It's a 3 piece boat with forward seating available.
The hull is 24' at the waterline. The bracket adds almost another 3' They build a 27 with bracket integrated but the 24 is the same size inside.

Costa 264 cat if it’s in your budget. Hands down best fit/finish/quality in that size range and one hell of a boat. Only thing that would beat it is maybe the 28 freeman but that’s almost double the price.
Eta - in the catamaran category.
Monohull is different story. I ran a 28 blue wave Makaira and wasn’t that impressed at all. That’s about all I can offer. I am a pretty big fan of contenders so I’d probably go with that for monohull.

I don’t have any experience in one but am definitely intrigued by the mexican pangas. If you looking for cheap and bare bones they could get the job done just don’t expect to go over low 20’s in any kind of slop.

Its's a great hull. I got to spend some time on one and was hooked. You can get them with forward seating, or a flat deck open bow. I got the forward seating for my wife, and I like to have a casting deck.
You can get twins or single outboards. jackplate, porta bracket, or a flotation bracket. I went with twin Suzukis.
You can get 14 degree, or 22 degree deadrise. I got the 22 for offshore.

What'd that run ya? I like the look of that a whole lot.

Pair has a build and price tab on the website.
I’ll have $165K in mine but that is loaded out with
Forward seating, leaning post live well, twin 1243 xsv, 87” minn Kota, twin digital Suzuki, and a lot of other stuff. It actually priced better than a Robalo 250, Sportsman 262, Cobia 262, Contender 25T, comparably equipped. I know it sounds like a lot but they build about 100 boats per year. They don’t depreciate like a production boat.

Yea, that seems like a good price for that rig as much as it makes me gag to say that.
Sure hope my old arse Kenner lasts the rest of my life
