re: Compound bow for 14 year old
Posted by leblanc272 on 6/18/26 at 1:47 pm to Lsutmorg
i just bought my 14yr old a bow for his bday in april. we went to a bow shop and tried out 5 different setups and he chose the one that felt and shot the best for him. he went in wanting the Bear adapt but after shooting he chose the Hoyt Enduro. it is adjustable up to 70# and 31" draw. it will last him a long time. we were out the door with a complete setup and 6 arrows right at $1000
re: Have you ever seen a Louisiana Black Bear in person?
Posted by leblanc272 on 6/15/26 at 7:55 am to SaintlyTiger88
saw one 2 weeks ago on the side of Hwy 90 in Berwick. I had one on the golf course in Kinder, La many years ago. it would trash the large steel trash cans at night. put a game camera up and it was a mom and baby black bear.
re: How often should pins be moved

as a former superintendent (5 weeks) my plan in winter Nov-Feb was changing cups 2x week unless we had a large group, multiple day group, tournament, or a lot of play. If the holes needed changing, we changed them. March - October the plan on paper was Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. If we played more than 90 rounds that day and the next day was busy also, we changed them. Cups are looked at every day for condition. tee markers are moved every time we mowed which was 2-3x week. the busy tee's were moved more often. I would send a team member out to check tees, if they were beat up (par 3's) or just worn out from lots of rounds in one spot, they were moved. not every tee on a hole was moved, just the ones with the most play. Labor is Definity an issue, and we had to make the best of our time. Greens, greenside bunkers, fairways and tees were most important. changing cups on a normal day is a one person job and takes 2-2.5 hours to do it right. then 1-2 team members blowing off greens behind the mowers depending on the amount of debris and clippings on the greens. on busy tournament days / shotgun starts, 2 team members changing cups, 2-4 team memebers blowing greeens, and the team hand raking bunkers. also 1-3 team members pulling hose hand watering greens as needed.

the golden nugget has a large putting green with minimal slope. L'Auberge has a very small putting green that is also kind of flat. out of the 2, GN has more movement in it. the National just built a new putting green behind the clubhouse and it's in the grow-in phase.

Just an FYI - the money isn't always there. Equipment cost have gone up 63% since 2020. so an equipment package that was $800,000 in 2020 is now 1.3 million. fertilizer prices with tariffs and wars are doubling. chemicals have gone up 20-25% in the last 2 years. Paying more doesn't always work out. you end up over payng most of the time for waht you get work ethic wise. Our industry does need to revamp is pay structure, but with all these increases it means green fees will go up and we all know how that will go over on the TD board. we are lucky to just break even year over year. I haven't had any capital improvement money in 3 years.
re: Best K-5 school in Lake Charles

EDS k-6 is still the North campus on Division street and Kirkman downtown. the South EDS Campus is grades 7-12 is in graywood. My kids go to EDS. Both schools are great option. I have coached a few kids that attended TS Cooley and they have received a great education.

re: Baton Rouge Greens Report
Posted by leblanc272 on 1/20/26 at 7:47 am to ole man
Prodiamine is not labeled for greens. Label is the law!!! prodamine is a root inhibator meaning it shrinks your roots. Golf greens don't have deep roots like the rest of the course. Roots on greens is usually in the 3-5" depth, and shorter in winter. Putting prodamine on greens will reduce that root depth significantly and make for a possible rough spring transzition, especially if its wet in the spring.
on another note, after using prodiamine for a number of years, some of the Poa will become resistant and the chemical will not work anymore. we are seeing the same issue in places with Specticle herbicide. Universities are doing research, but haven't found a silver bullet yet to kill and prevent Poa from germrinating.

please know that Copper Mill has a new Superintendent that started late in the growing season. The fact that you can see visable repairs and consistent top dressing of the bad areas in question lets you know that this guy cares and is changing the culture there. I know the Superintendent very well and he has done amazing at every other golf course he has been at. Give him time and keep supporting Copper Mill and it will continue to improve and be one of the best options in the BR area again.
re: What is your favorite whole bean coffee?
Posted by leblanc272 on 10/20/25 at 7:06 am to rpg37
I enjoy River Road Coffee out of Baton Rouge. I like their Acadian and the Creole. you can get it in whole bean or ground. I can't get in Lake Charles, so when I travel for work or head east to see family, I stop into stores that carry it over that way and stock up.

I used Rising River Guides last year and they were very easy and responsive. They did get us Alex Carr from Diamond State Outfitters and he was great with teaching my 13yr the art of fly fishing. Bryan Stark with rising river is pretty damn good and is from Rayne, Louisiana. this spring when I go back I will be staying at White River Trout Club.

re: Honest Opinion of Ram Trucks
Posted by leblanc272 on 8/20/25 at 6:50 am to YouKnowImRight
I owned a 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 and the rear end went out at 37,000 miles. the repair took 14 days and never felt right so I traded it in 5 days later. The ride quality and interior features were great. the radio sync sucked. I really liked my truck until the rear end issues. If it had been repaired correctly, I may still be driving it. I traded it and went with a vehicle built pre-covid and supply issues
re: Friendly Reminder on Jeeps and Rams

my 22 Ram had the rear end go out at 37,000 miles. the warranty repair took 14 days and wasn't done correctly and still had issues. Then that crap U connect for the radio never worked right. the truck was comfortable and rode smooth and looked good, but the reliability wasn't there.
