Niswanger won the academic Heisman, pretty impressive for a top tier SEC player.

No mention of Tommy Banks yet (unless I missed it). He's a general practitioner in West Monroe. Not bad for a hard-hitting fullback. He had a shot in the NFL before med school, but reportedly elected to walk away from football to focus on medicine.

Lewis Neal is an exceptional entrepreneur. Dude was making big money on the stock market while he was playing.

I remember Rudy Niswanger having a 3.9 in Pre Med. Something like that.
Yeah Rudy won the Draddy award,, aka Academic Heisman, and is one of the smartest people that I know.

I played ball with his son and he helped coach. Great guy and really smart. I didn’t even know he was a Doctor until years later.

Thanks for the compliment and I enjoyed those years of coaching more than you kids could ever believe. My era at LSU had several docs. Nacho, Sol Graves, Chad, myself. But the guy that hasn’t been mentioned set the curve on every test he took from Catholic High through med school and that’s Dr Mike Blanchard ortho in BR.

Athletes that were engineering majors were by far the most impressive.
Caleb Gilbert was a Civil Engineer and he had like a 3.6 GPA if I remember correctly.
