BK quote on Denver Harris

Paraphrasing “When he got here he’d only played press man and relied on athleticism since his high school days. We couldn’t use him until he learned how to do everything we needed him to do. He’s been a very coachable player and is coming along.”
Heard this (essentially) in a clip Moscona had on his show where BK was asked about Harris.
Bodes very well for us seeing more and more of him on the field in the coming weeks. Our DBs could be markedly better by the OM game if so.

He tends to take shots at a&m. It’s interesting and I like it

Any quote on why Z. Alexander plays 20 yards off of every WR including Gramblings?

Asking a man to man corner to play zone is the height of stupidity, but hey, this is the same staff that tried to make Harold Perkins a box ILB.

He didn’t say “and we only play zone.” He specifically said they mix up their coverages but Harris didn’t know how to play anything but press.
We don’t have the team to play all press man all the time

I may be wrong, but don't the majority of HS CBs play primarily man coverage?
There's usually a learning curve for most HS DBs to play zone.

Who are you talking about? House?

Playing zone is a must in todays game. You can’t have the DBs always play with their backs to the QB. RPOs and QBs will gash you if the CBs and DBs are not supporting run also. You see teams play a base zone and run man to man to mix it up with pressure.

I think this "height of stupidity" thing you are talking about is akin to this "player development" concept that some coaches are experimenting with. It's so new and novel that i wouldn't expect a Orgeron devotee to know much about it...

You must like him looking like a fool then, from dancing with recruits that spurns him, outsmarting himself with switching player’s positions and not playing the best players, taking a shot at teams that beats him A&M and FSU.
I love BK but just coach the team man and stop trying to be the smartest in the room, give me David Griffin vibes at times

They do. And I had heard from someone in the preseason that was somewhat of a concern for the staff that guys were struggling with zone coverage.
NO DC is going to play exclusive man coverage or exclusively zone. They may play one more than the other, but never one converge scheme 100% of the time.
I don't think the staff is trying to make a "man CB" into a "zone CB". But they do have to feel confident their players can execute both so as to allow the DC to change coverages from time to time.

You understand that every team mixes coverages, don’t you?
You don’t think we should strictly play M2M, right?

Maybe he won’t get humiliated by that shite team this year

Funny how as soon as our other CBs looked like arse, Harris became “a very coachable player doing the right things lol

There is no such thing as a man to man corner or zone corner. As a corner you HAVE to be able to play both.
So are they just going to take Harris out when they want to run zone? That won’t tip the offense off or anything.

I'm not above creating more rounded athletes as some packages, some teams, some situations might call for a different defensive alignment and scheme. So, in my mind it's good to cross train them, but at the end of the day, we need to allow them to play to their strengths, i.e. Perkins on the edge causing chaos, and Harris locked up in man to allow Safety to lay the hammer down on other receivers.
