I didn’t get “ahead” until well into my 40s. Change your expectations and take care of your business

We make $140k/year with teacher benefits, and the idea that I’m going to save for my kids’ college is barely a blip in my planning right now.

Open a 529 and put whatever you can spare away each month, even if it’s only $30

Honestly, do you think things would be different if someone else was in office? I know Biden sucks, but a lot of this shite is driven by the impact Covid had on the economy.

Its not as simple as who is president, it is only one branch of the government and just feel like this is just the simple go to excuse.

If not, I seriously want to know. What has Biden done specifically to put the economy where it is?

We had $11K disappear from our savings in a matter of 3 days. Home A/C, car transmission on one vehicle and intake manifold gasket on another. If we didn't have it, we would have had to resort to credit cards.

Sometimes,shite just happens

Obviously, there is some truth in this, but don't pretend who is running things doesn't matter. Did moving from Carter to Reagan make a difference? Did moving from Trump to Biden make a difference? Biden set up an inflation firestorm right out of the gate with his actions, and the impact of that has been profound.

Biden and his administration are responsible for a lot of that, no?

I do. Biden said on day 1 he would take down big oil. High fuel and energy costs increased inflation.

Beats me. I thought my salary was sufficient and I was comfy and ok until homeowners jumped way up, increasing my mortgage, and will likely happen again best year. Between that, summer utility highs, groceries and general COL, there’s nothing left for fun, and some days I find myself in a dark place the way things are heading. The good thing is I’m still paying myself via 401k contributions. I remind myself if that when it gets “dark.”

Bingo. From day 1 he has done everything possible to crush American energy production. That and his "infrastructure bill" and the "inflation reduction act" have set inflation on fire. This led to 7% plus interest rates and so many other problems.

It's not my money if it is credit card. People are still living like they are in college 20 years after college.

The cars that you see on streets in BTR makes you think the avg house income is 200K+. It's either Lexus, 4Runner or Yukon

The US has been through this before. My first house in Perkins Village in 1979 had a 11% mortgage. You learn to live within your means. You learn the difference between needs and wants. But you have to be disciplined enough to create a written budget.

Kinda. Government spending was not close to the levels it is now, especially as a Kentucky of GDP. I agree with everything you say but the underlying economic factors have shifted

This is from factcheck.org.

It points out inaccuracies in Biden's economic speech.

quote:

In a speech on inflation and the economy, President Joe Biden made some misleading claims and used political spin to criticize Republicans and promote his policies.

Biden said higher inflation was due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding that “it’s not because of spending.” But there’s debate among economists over how much pandemic relief spending may have contributed.
The president used Sen. Rick Scott’s 11-point plan to claim that Republicans will raise taxes. But Scott now says he’s not advocating a tax increase on working Americans and retirees, and the plan may not have widespread support in the Republican Party.
Biden cherry-picked in saying “we produced more oil domestically in my first year in office than my predecessor did in his first year.” That’s accurate, but the amount of crude oil produced in Biden’s first year was less than the amount produced in 2019 and 2020.
He misleadingly took credit for historic deficit reduction, but most of that is the result of expiring emergency pandemic spending.
Biden boasted that “my Treasury Department” will “pay down the national debt this quarter.” He’s right, but the federal debt held by the public is up 10.2% under Biden so far, and Treasury has said it will resume borrowing next quarter.
The president said “not a penny” of the Republican tax cuts in 2017 “was paid for.” The tax law wasn’t fully paid for, but it raised some taxes in order to offset costs.
Biden spoke on May 10.

There is more on the inflation part.

Stop worrying about other people/other people’s lives…Jesus Christ why do you care? Focus on you and your family(if you are fortunate enough to have one). Facebook/Instagram etc 99% horse shite smoke and mirrors and no one will ever tell you true financial situation and it’s not your business anyways.

Live your life; make most of what have. You could be gone tomorrow.

Our friend group always asks "what in the world do they do for a living?" because it is clearly not what any of us are doing.
