Every movie is better than any book. Books are terrible

LOL_wut?!?

The Lord of the Rings book series is absolutely magical; it’s like stepping into another reality.

The movies were nowhere near as good as the books.

I think the movies are every bit as good as the books. And I absolutely love the books.

I try to avoid “impossible”, but unlikely. Especially if the book is a jewel. This moment, I can’t think of one improved in film. And I love movies—

Even as to the magnificent film Gone with the Wind: the book traveled more deeply into the culture, creating a story thick with gristle.

Must have to do with the means through which powerful writing engages our minds.

Not that hard especially when the book was a short story like Do Robots Dream of Electric Sheep or Shawhank Redemption. Chuck Palahniuk says the movie Fight Club is much better than his book, but i haven't read it. For the most part, the books are better though.

The Shining

That’s a big one. It’s most signature scenes and lines aren’t in the book. Doesn’t necessarily make a movie better but in this case it does. Granted It would have been technically difficult to follow the book exactly but it’s much better that he didn’t attempt it. Especially at the end.

This one is weird. Kubrick and Clarke actually came up with the screenplay before the book. The book is actually kind of an adaptation.

The first twilight movie isn't good, but it's a hell of a lot better than the first twilight book.

In addition to some of the ones already mentioned, I'd say Starship Troopers, Jurassic Park, Hugo, the 40s version of Fountainhead.

I've never read Red Alert, but it's supposedly garbage, and Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove is not garbage.

I think I agree with you, generally.

But some movies may be more “enjoyable” than reading the source material.

The Graduate book and real life story is a mess.

Thank god we have the classic movie. I don't know if the origins are Onion satire?

quote:

Author of the Graduate, Webb married Eve Rudd in 1962; they divorced in 1981 in protest at the institution of marriage, but remained a couple.

They remarried in 2001 because of immigration rules, and remained together until her death in 2019. Eve shaved her head and called herself "Fred" in solidarity with a Californian support group called Fred, for men who have low self-esteem.

The couple had two sons, John and David; the latter is now a performance artist who once cooked and ate a copy of The Graduate with cranberry sauce, reportedly to his father's delight.

The Webbs removed their children from school so that they could tutor them at home. This was illegal in California at the time, and to evade the authorities they fled the state; at one point they managed a nudist camp in New Jersey.

They gave away four houses in succession lived on the breadline, taking menial jobs as cleaners, cooks and fruit-pickers, working at K-Mart and living in a shack.

they emigrated to Britain - 'We've got the distance to express the anti-Americanism we've always felt,'

- and set up home in a sparsely furnished flat above a pet shop in Newhaven near Brighton, later moving to Hove.

They have continued to produce novels, written by Webb and illustrated by his 'ex-wife'.

Aren't the body and Shawshank redemption both short stories? I'm guessing making a movie as good as or better than the short story isn't impossible.

The jaws novel was absolutely awful. Even jaws 2 movie was better than the jaws novel.
