I am glad I got to see him before he passed.
Per his Facebook page.

One of my greatest memories is walking down Duval St on a Tuesday afternoon. Walk up to his bar and he’s playing on the stage. It was just him and an acoustic guitar, no cover.
This was 1992

Seems strange. No independent confirmation as yet. The inference is it was not unexpected but there's been no indication that he was ill prior to this. It would be the GOAT hack to take over all his social media accounts at once but anything's possible.

If true, the world is a lesser place without him.
His songs were the soundtrack to much of my formative years and goods time with my dad.

Damn that sucks. Call me cheesy but I love the take it easy vibe of his music. Always perked me up if I was feeling down. Will be missed for sure.

Damn 2 pirates in the past year. Maybe JB can now play some tunes for Leach.

His music was simple and terrible. But he did make a ton of a beach bum genre. So congrats.

RIP to a hero and legend.
Zigg- You're a moron. I’m not sure where he did everything to lie about his money as you say. He’s talked numerous times about his hard work and business ventures allowing him to enjoy life and do what he wants. Just because a man is rich doesn’t mean he can’t still be simple.

frick. I kept telling myself next year to see him. Not what I wanted to wake up to on the first CFB Saturday. Dammit.

Saw him at least a dozen times over many years and in many places. My favorite show was a day long concert at Tad Gormley Stadium on June 12, 1993. It also featured Evangeline, The Iguanas and Little Richard. The day started nicely enough, as it was the day that the Tigers won their second NC in baseball.
RIP, Jimmy and thanks for the great music and good times. Hopefully, you're in Paradise eating the biggest, best cheeseburger ever.
ETA: Jimmy was also a huge Saints fan. When he played Jazzfest months after the infamous "NOLA no call" against the Rams, Jimmy started his show dressed as a blind ref, being led out onstage by two Saints cheerleaders.

Awoke to this news on my phone this morning. So much of my youth was listening to and appreciating his tropical vibe. Still have the album I won from a teacher in HS over the '82 Iron Bowl bet.
(I would have had to give her a Bob Dylan album if I lost)
Thanks for the fun times, Jimmy.
