Edit: LSU attempted to move the Grambling game to week 0, couldn’t happen. LSU was going to use Smith’s ankle injury as an excuse in order to hide the suspension. We are not sure what the exact game that Kayshon served his suspension. He missed 3 total games.

UPDATE: Multiple sources have confirmed Maason Smith and Kayshon Boutte participated in an autograph signing in the summer of 2021 prior to NIL going live.

Boutte served a one game suspension during the 2022 season. He missed the New Mexico game for the birth of his son and the UAB game for—what Brian Kelly said was—the flu. Smith would have served his suspension last year also but was injured.

The NCAA made LSU aware Smith would serve the suspension in the season opener earlier this summer.

Moscona Tweet

Sounds like they didn’t think to check with anyone before doing this even or LSU really didn’t have their shite together at the beginning of NIL.

That's some absolute petty bullshite to be suspending a guy after missing an entire year to injury.

NIL went live July 1, 2021

Maason Smith is very likely the last suspension for this shite in NCAA history. Of fricking course.

He probably would have served the suspension against UAB last year like Kayshon

So why can’t Smith miss a cupcake game like Kayshon?

Unless coaches know he’s still injured/not 100% so they are ok with this being the game he misses since he wasn’t going to be play much anyway?

Such bullshite

Can't we negotiate and have him suspended for 2 games, but we get to pick?

LSU doesn’t get to choose the game. Smith wasn’t eligible to play because of the injury this is first opportunity to serve the suspension.

I’m assuming that the punishment being handed down just so happened to line up with the UAB game and this is the first game that Maason is eligible to be suspended.

He was eligible to play every game last year. There’s no injured reserve in college football.
