What is Chicfila's secret to hiring and retaining good employees?

It's pretty impressive how consistent they are in a time where it's hard to find good employees, even when paying $25+ per hour.

This is 2 years old, but the guy does really solid pieces on various companies.

The one in BR is owned by a Mormon so he hires other Mormons. At least that’s how it was 15 years ago

Imo its having sundays off and originally being on mall hours. Way less hours than some of these other places to put bodies on a shift.

Everyone else is slammed on sundays.

And you cant own 100 of them and not care about them.

I imagine the pay there along with a few other establishments such as Canes is better than most other fast food places. Believe they are blessed for observing the Lord's Day by not being open on Sundays. Of course, employees may enjoy saying "My pleasure" as well.....

I was told by a franchise owner that they require 3 interviews before officially hiring on the basis that most that are willing to show up on time/interview 3 times for a fast food job are going to be quality employees.

I asked a Chick Fil A franchise owner about that a few years ago. He said that its all in the training and staying on top of employees. He also said that if an applicant has any prior fast food experience he won't hire them. They come preloaded with bad habits and attitudes.

I worked at CFA during college because I valued getting Sunday off, even though it meant I would get paid for fewer hours. A lot of the unskilled labor they attract are kids who would rather worship than work on Sunday. Those church kids turn out to be pretty good employees.

Consistent owner presence, not simply relying on a GM to keep the kids in line while you play golf and shitpost on TD.

I used to think this but currently they are on par with wendys, dominos, in and out, arbys, mcdonalds, taco bell.

Hell looking at kfc and and popeys, they pay their managers a lot more, but the crew less.

Im just looking at indeed for average pay. I know its going to vary depending on where they are at.

Chicfila probably looks pretty decent on a resume for a kid coming out of college, where McDonald's would be more of a negative IMO.

I guess it helps that they cater to a middle class, Christian demographic and that group is more likely to have decent kids who would in turn, be likely interested in working there as a first job.

The biggest competitive and determining advantage in any industry (from Sports to Fast food) is great ownership. Proper ownership trickles down to the management and then the worker bees.

That's what's so interesting to me about it, they're basically paying the same in most cases.

The owner/operator being present definitely helps.
