Damn. I’ve been twice and never got that feeling. But I went to Sasquatch festival both times so I was able to sit wherever. Those grass shelves behind the pit weren’t too far away for me.

no question the nicest amphitheater I’ve been to is the ford amphitheater in vail. Stunningly beautiful
runners up are town park in telluride, Santa Barbara bowl and the gorge. Love red rocks but it’s a pretty uncomfortable place to see a show.
I’m pissed at myself for blowing off a show I had tickets to at the great American music hall last month. It was a late show after the D/C concert and we were whipped. Next time…

Madison Square Garden is pretty good for concerts. I liked the Warner Theater in DC. Town Hall in NYC was pretty cool. I've been to a bunch of shows at The Norva in Norfolk. Excellent place, about the perfect size for a lot of bands. I like Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill. DPAC and Carolina Theater in Durham are good.

Never been to Red Rocks on my bucket list
Tabernacle is great
Palladium in Worcester - great history for a metal venue where many of the Massachusetts metalcore bands got their start
In NO I really like the set up at the Civic and the Filmore moreso than HOB

Given your username, I think it always has to be in Europe, preferably outdoors. The crowds are just ... different. I wanted to try Donnington, but was convinced not to by a Brit. I just saw Iron Maiden in Barcelona, and it was nutso good, compared to watching it at Cynthia Woods Mitchell in Houston.
Next year, Metallica in Warsaw!

I guess this outs me as a small timer, but the Texas Club in Baton Rouge is a hell of a venue.

Greek Theater in Berkeley. Just an absolute delight, visually and acoustically.

I have a massive lol for anyone that says HOB in New Orleans. For the longest time they were notorious for having the worst PA in the area. Saw Sevendust there around 03/04, and to this day I've never heard a more lousy PA. Just one garbage mush of sounds.

I haven't been to many outside of the large auditorium (Like the old BR Centreplex, Cajundome, or the PMAC) or stadium venues. The two exceptions are the LSU Student Union Theater, where I saw Dire Straits in 1980, and the Lafayette Municipal Auditorium, where I saw AL Di Meola, Paco de Lucía, and John McLaughlin play together in the early 80s and the Black Crows with Government Mule sometime in the 90s.
Both had great acoustics, particularly relative to the other places, I think the Municipal was a bit better but that Dire Straits concert may have been my all-time favorite concert. Small venues seem so much more immersive.
Of course, I have also been to a lot of live music venues indoors and out watching local and small time bands and I saw Zebra at the Grant Street Dance Hall, which was a ton of fun.
