This could've been a one word article
"Yes."

It's not an article. It's literally bullet points of things everyone already knows.
This caught my eye though:
quote:
- The Texas staff has done a great job throughout this one in building relationships with Simmons and his family, while also showcasing what kind of off-field opportunities would be available to him should he choose the Longhorns.
This is the pitch that has me a little worried for all big time recruits. Selling kids on building their "brand" in Austin.
It's like "yeah, we're probably gonna go 7-6 but you'll be too busy making connections for your career at the next level to care"

I don’t see many 5-stars being sold on this. Simmons’ aspirations are the NFL, not working for a tech startup.
There’s no question which program is more appealing for players who want to develop and be pro-ready. As long as we can come reasonably close or match the NIL $$$ that Texas is offering, I feel confident about this one

Both sides are going to say we got Simmons a week out. Even the side that is currently losing is going to maintain confidence they can pull it out. But as the week progresses, the losing side will start showing cracks in their confidence to let their fan base down more gently. So, this article is a really good sign. Even saying nothing, the title is showing their doubt. Simmons to LSU is looking good.

Austin is becoming like California. A college football player isn't very notable.

There’s some merit to this. Growing up in Austin in the 90’s, the entire town followed Texas football. It was even more amplified when Ricky Williams had his Heisman season, and then throughout the 2000’s during the Mack Brown era. It seemed like a true college town. Today, the football program is prominent, but lacks the overwhelming support and craze of its city. To me it’s similar to what USC has become for Los Angeles - something interesting to follow when they’re good, but if they suck, you pretend you’re not into football and just like hiking, biking, and paddle boarding. Neither fit the bill of a SEC football/college town.
Sadly, money has become the great equalizer for those programs

I like to tell the horn fans . UT fans are like Barry Manilow and LSU fans are like Led Zeppelin.

Looks to me like the cracks in their confidence are already showing. My UT friends have been apoplectic the past few years - esp last season when they absorbed the buy out, overpaid Sark, and *still* went 5-7. Bless their hearts.

I lived in Austin from 2012-14, you could have taken UT sports completely out of the city and you’d never know it. It’s a thing that’s there that you drive past on I-35. It’s not part of the larger Austin culture at all. A lot of people go to a game a year because it’s the only big sports thing in town. Even that is changing with Austin FC, I went to a game there when I left during Ida and it was packed.
It is nowhere near the beating heart of the community it is in most other SEC cities

I tend to worry about these things as well at times, but then I think of how I would show the recruits the current and most famous and hyped athletes and NIL type impacts of the last decade - Livvy , Bayou Barbie, Honey Badger, The LSU baseball team, Burrow, OBJ, Chase, Jefferson, the griddy, Pat Pete, #7, etc, etc
Has there been a school in the last 10-15 years with more instagram era, NIL era, swagger as LSU sports. Our brand is swagger, winning, cocky, creative, fearless, wild. Since NIL no one has bigger stars and that would have been even more magnified if NIL started years earlier.
We comin you f’in bitches.

That's because Austin is a really nice city unlike most of the SEC cities that feature SEC teams.

Austin USED to be awesome. The homeless are absolutely overtaking that place. Within another year or two it’s going to be San Francisco 2.0
