I’m talking about the kind you add water to. Does it make everything wet?

Put ice in that thing and watch your walls freeze.

That looks like a humidifier

Isn't that a swamp cooler? That wouldn't work worth a shite in humid areas but would be just fine in dry climates.

From my understanding they can provide a descent amount of cooling in a very dry arid place, but won't do shite in very humid locations.

A friend in Golden CO had a swamp cooler on her roof. It worked well but when it started having problems, she had problems getting it repaired. Where she lives, weeds don't grow except where there's irrigation. What weeds emerge in the rainy season die when the rain stops.

One of our nurses has one on her desk - it does blow cold air just at a very low rate of speed and it doesn't get anything wet.

In olden times people would just put water in a vat and as it slowly evaporated it would cool the area. Inefficient but better than nothing .
Idk if I made that up or not.

This thing actually looks interesting, and at least the science/tech makes sense:

I ordered it for one bedroom that just says hot, due to the large 12’ plantation window and 16’ ceiling. The room is only 12x10. If it don’t work, I’ll send it back. Got it thru Amazon.

saw one at an estate auction

I have one for my office, as that specific area of my house was an addition the previous owners had added, and doesn’t have any HVAC, only a ceiling fan. The little ac unit plus a small fan that clips on the monitor keeps me cool during the hot days.

We just bought one. If you freeze the filter and put ice water in the reservoir, it's colder but it won't cool off a room. It's best suited for a desk. Make sure you put a towel underneath, it does drip a bit.
