Do you give him a third shot at it in 2024? If not, why not?

This is a year where 8-9 could be the division winner and host a playoff game...doubtful he gets the axe if that happens.

That might give a false sense of security, while treading in mediocrity again.

Yep, I agree. But winning a mediocre division could save him for at least one more year.

8-9 with a sweep/1 loss division and a home playoff game = keep.

8-9 with a couple of division losses and no playoff = keep but send out feelers

7-10 or worse = gone. Won't happen but the sentiment remains.

If the offensive philosophy remains in the Stone Age then he needs to go regardless of W/L.

I've always thought Allen could be a better head coach than his record reflected in Oakland. I liked the off season moves he made last year but believe that Allen was still coaching the team that Payton left a mess and deserved a pass in that first year. I think the staff has done a great job building on and changing from last year but unless the team is hamstrung with major injuries I do not see 8-9 as acceptable unless they are able to make a deep run in the playoffs despite the record. Allen would need to be replaced. This is his opportunity to put a good team on the field that does nothing but improve over the course of the year.

8-9 with a healthy roster, even if wins division, goodbye. Unless he wins a playoff game. At that point there’s at least a discussion.

8-9 should be an automatic fire I already don’t think DA and Carmichael are the answer so the faster we move on the better.

Then he would only extend his streak of losing seasons as a head coach.

im still not sure if this FO is competent enough to replace him even if he goes 5-12

they seem to be as clueless as it comes to the product being put on the field or the changes that are needed to compete in the NFL

i veiw them as willfully ignorant by choice with no concerns beyond if ticket sales are good or not

Depends on if he makes the playoffs. With our schedule, with the additions we made on the roster, and he still doesn't make the playoffs? He's LONG gone.

Oh they're competent enough to fire him. I just don't know if the current regime should be the ones to make the next hire. Loomis is already on a short string with fans considering he did the safe thing and hired Allen because he wanted continuity. Look how that's turned out so far.

He went after a young offensive minded guy in Payton before but that was almost 20 years ago. I don't know if I have confidence in them to make the right hire or if they'd just go look for another Payton clone.

As usual it will depend on what kind of 8-9 were talking about.

8-9 with a bunch of injuries sucks but it should be competitive within the division.

8-9 with a healthy dysfunctional roster and he's gone.

My guess is if the offense sucks arse he'll be giving a chance to replace Carmichael, maybe..

If it's the defense that a catastrophe he takes the fall because he made that change this year.

He is getting 3 years whether we like it or not.

What’s gonna suck is were gonna lose a damn good defensive coordinator in the process.

I would want to move on if all he can manage is 8-9 with what appears to be one of the weaker schedules in a conference where the best QB probably is the 7th-8th best QB in the league.

At a minimum there will need to be a complete rebuild of the coaching staff. But the reason why I would move on completely is I would be concerned that I could not draw a top OC and assistants when it appears the HC will be gone by 2024 anyway.

If he can’t win at least 10 games with this roster and soft schedule he needs to be shown the door
