I was three and our family was at our grandparents house and all I remember was them bitching about their hair.
Here are their performances cut toghether from that night. LINK
Damn they were a great live band too.

Yup. I knew what I wanted to grow up to be after watching that night: a TV variety show host.

I have always been intrigued by that aspect of the Beatles’ work. They could spend months crafting these incredible original songs and then…never play them again

I was 10 and watching with my Dad. He laughed out loud at the first close up of Ringo. Said something about his nose sticking out from under the hair. I was captivated and began playing guitar. My uncle gave me a mid-50’s Kay. I put bass strings on it. I have never lost interest in the Beatles and I am touring Abbey Road studios in August. Bucket list-?

Yes I remember.
We had a black and white console tv and my siblings and I sat on the floor in front of it so we wouldn't miss a thing.
Last night I saw The Stones on ES. They sang Ruby Tuesday and the girls went wild.

Yes but barely remember - just that I saw it at something like 7 years old. Weirdly, it was at my grandmother's house. She loved Ed Sullivan and watched the rock acts and liked them. I remember the Animals on Ed Sullivan more than the Beatles. My father still is pissed with the Beatles because they played a very short concert in Kansas City in 1964 - the same year as the Ed Sullivan Show. Charlie Finley owned the Kansas City A's at the time and moved them to Oakland shortly after. The Beatles had an open date and Charlie Finley threw the checkbook at them in order to get them to play. The members of the band were pissed to lose a down day. They played to the exact time required in the contract and then walked off the stage in the middle of a song. I think they played for around 40 minutes. It wasn't a sellout and Charlie Finley lost his arse.

I was two and have no recollection of this appearance other than clips I saw later.

I was born in 1958, family of nine with five older sisters, black and white TV, Ed Sullivan on a Sunday night in 1964 and every family member, including my mom and dad were glued to the little black and white TV watching the first wave of the British Invasion.

Their Royal Variety performance in 1963 was fantastic and what makes it nice is it's one of their few with no screaming girls. Before The Beatles even hit it in America, the emcee has a hilarious comment at the end, "So successful, so young... frightening."

I did see the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. The whole family watched it every Sunday night. (Was I the only one who found Topio Gigio incredibly annoying?) But back to the Beatles. My oldest brother and my older sister were completely enamored, therefore I was, too.
I seem to also remember Elvis on Ed Sullivan, but I checked the dates for when he was on and I would’ve been too young to have a memory of it. But my memory is that I was puzzled by the reaction of the screaming girls in the studio audience and kept asking my mom what he was doing to get them to scream like that, and she just smiled and didn’t answer.

Yep, from recollection I got to stay up late because it was past my bed time. Not sure how late, but Ed Sullivan was on tape delay in B'ham before there were 3 full time CBS, NBC, and ABC affiliates.

I was 12, and begged my parents all week to let me miss Sunday night church to see the ed sullivan show. They did!
Seeing the Beatles led to my getting a guitar and learning how to play.

I was in the Southern Baptist Hospital nursing school dormitory lobby picking up my date, and the Ed Sullivan Show was on. Most of the student nurses were in the lobby watching the show, and when my date came into the lobby she wanted to watch it for a few minutes. (Notwithstanding, I eventually married that student nurse and we were together for 48 years.)

I'd read that if their management wasn't excessively cheap with the production costs of putting on a proper live show, the band probably would've toured throughout their career. If that’s the reason why they stopped, it's a tragedy...

It would have been interesting to see how their sound would have evolved in the 70’s. They were just tapped out by the time they broke up.

George got too good as a songwriter and there wasn't enough album space anymore. George wrote the two best songs on their last album, Abbey Road. John especially knew the jig was up and didn't want to fight for album space.
