The joy of listening to full albums as opposed to a playlist or Pandora

Both have their place. I like listening to complete albums, but there are times when I just want to veg out (when I'm reading) and let a playlist go. I have ~1200 CDs ripped to a HD and I'll put them on random from Foobar2000 and they can go for weeks feeding my stereo.

It’s been enlightening for sure.

I find that most albums from artists I like will have at least 1 or 2 songs I’ll like more than the ones that come out as singles. I also find this is the case with my friends, however they will often like different songs than myself. Music is subjective, so I think it’s a good idea to listen to listen to full albums.

Plus for some artists the album is specifically created to be played together and tell an overarching story. They want people to listen to the whole thing

Very often, as of late. It makes for a more fulfilling listening experience.

I’ve really enjoyed deep cuts I’ve found from bands like Boston, The Cars, and Ramones.

My favorites as of late are Kiss’s first album and BOC’s Fire of Unknown Origin. Both are loaded with killer riffs and great songs.

I travel the country for work so music is a very key part of that. The first van I had was a big Ford Transit with a CD player, which was huge to me. Last year I got my new van, a Ram Pro Master with no CD player. I was not happy at all. Still not.

I mentioned to my wife that that was one of the things I was unhappy about with the new van. She’s not as deep of a music lover as I am so she found it curious. She mentioned it to a couple of her friends once and they all got a good laugh out of it because after all I can still stream music while driving.

They just don’t get it.

The only way I listen to music is complete albums….I almost never listen to just a random song here or there….

I am the exact opposite. I doubt I will ever listen to a complete album ever again.

When a band that I really like releases a new album I usually like a few singles already. I try to listen to new albums all the way thru at least once on long drives or runs. Doesn’t always happen. I do prefer playlists of multiple artists daily. But I’m also the kind of person that will play a song that I love over and over til it’s dead

On older albums that I already know every song. I don’t listen to the whole thing I pick and choice.

Just had a moment that sums up the thread.

I had jar of flies my whole life but I didn’t appreciate it and listen to it fully as a kid.

Just heard Whale and the wasp and don’t follow and they are probably my favorite songs on the EP now and I never gave a shite about them when I had the CD in the 90s on high school.

That’s mostly what I do. I only like playlists for parties or if I just can’t pick an album to listen to.
