I worked at a pretty high class restaurant in college. It was the same even if they were well off. Had a couple black waitresses and the hostess would try to funnel them to those two waitresses and they would get pissed. One even brought it up that she only wants to wait on white people to management lol.

Why? When your entire life you've been taught it's okay to show up and show out?

People on this board shite on Essence every year, but its more higher class blacks who attend.

I've said this before, but I have been in NO during an Essence festival weekend and it was actually a good time both times. I ended up talking and joking around with people from out of state who were in NO to attend Essence.

I'd love to see a stat on the increase of sales of pink lemonade during Essence Fest.

Did you ever work as a waiter during essence fest? I have.

The stereotypes are there for a reason.

Shocked this would hit the radar of a typical essence fest visitor

That sort of thing gets posted on here all the time. It's the way a lot of LA people talk.

ETA: Wait, I just realized I was defending SuperSaint. Please forget I said anything.

Maybe once upon a time, but there's too much liability involved in an employee being assaulted for this to still fly.

No there's not.

I mean, what you said should be correct, but it is not the reality.

Checklist to go on vacation if you are a server.

Checklist if you are a server to take a vacation or sick day.
- get more complaints
- guest will want free food
- low or no tips which is how they get paid.

If the event you possibly have to work has check marks in all of the above boxes it is time for a vacation.

Servers ain't the only thing that disappears. Linen services look forward to Essence. For them, its a chance to unload all their worn sheets, pillow cases and towels.

Lithette #1 (no pics) worked at a restaurant in the French Quarter during the summer while in College and one night of essence she made less than $10 in tips. I think there was one table that added in a tip for a party of more than 6 and they dined and dashed

Used to work it without any problems. That being said, northern blacks throw more racist commentary about new orleans blacks than anyone I have ever heard

You never make anywhere near enough in tips to deal with the shite show that you have to deal with. Not worth it in every aspect.

A lot must have changed in the ten years since I was a server then. Amazing that we've gone backwards.
