Four of the first five times his LSU teams faced off against the supposed greatest of of all time at Alabama, Les out-coached Nick.
He arguably coached his team to the greatest regular season in college football history in 2011.
I believe to this day that he had some type of mental health change because of 1-9-12. That day, his team should have played Oklahoma State for what would have been his second National Championship - this one a perfect 14-0 and not an “undefeated in regulation”. It would have cemented his legacy at LSU and pretty much killed the talk amongst all those insecure fans who secretly dreamed of little nicky coming back.
Instead….well, we know what happened. I don’t think Les checked out immediately, but he went into decline. Similar to Orgeron, his flaws began to dominate him,
maybe almost as a defense mechanism. When he couldn’t find success on the field, he searched for other areas
to fill the void.
At one point, Les was the stand up guy of a coach who kicked Perriloux and TM7 off the team…something the ethical black hole little Nicky would never have done. By the end, he was harassing 20-year olds and letting Darius Guice play.
Before that came out, I think his legacy was that of a winner who should/could have won more…almost a cross between Paul Dietzel who had the NC but left too soon and Charlie McClendon who had good teams and longevity but never had everything go right. I’m not quite sure now whether to say he is “disgraced”
Or merely “tarnished”.

Disgraced.
And hopefully soon forgotten.

He's definitely a cynical inspiration for me. I, like many others, bought the narrative that he did things "the right way". He was wacky, bold, and was a family man. After everything came out about him, it changed my opinion on how I view coaches. I don't care anymore you're a family man, "one of us", or do whatever; just fricking win with the talent you got. Of course carry yourself with some dignity and professionalism off the field: we don't want immoral crap like creeping on women staffers while married.
This is all to say is that I don't buy any "brand" a coach puts out there now thanks to him (and Ed O to a lesser extent as well). Just have the program that wins, adapts, and maintains a winning culture that doesn't waste everyone's time. Thanks for everything Les. Stay at home in the shadows.

He was an embarrassing Head Coach With embarrassing ,dumbfounded Coaching decisions ! Should have been fired a long time ago !

Les Miles and Ed O are basically the same with their coaching quit and tail chasing ways. Both brought a title and some good times. In the end, not great coaches or men.

Never liked him. His bullshite caught up with him as it often does. Guys who skirt by eventually get exposed. That’s true in all walks of life. Reminds me that I need to get going today and quit dicking around on TD.

Les was a limiting reagent.

Les kept us from getting Saban back…

To be fair...there was 1 huge difference between Les & O. Les was a legit program maintainer, while O was the opposite. Just my opinion.

Les Miles > Ed O
Both were somewhat embarrassing to LSU. But Les didn’t stand by and watch the program collapse

I think he was/is legit special needs. If Saban had stayed we would have won 5+ titles
Posted on 6/30/23 at 6:42 am to jptiger2009
Ahhhh nothing like shitting on an ex-coach to get the Rantards all riled up.

From the embarrassing way he’d conduct himself in interviews followed by that smug cheesy smile like he was so funny and clever, to the fact that he settled in on making our offense a complete laughingstock nationally with no plans to change it, to the fact that he was a complete piece of shite off the field, I couldn’t stand the guy.
Couple that with the fact that football is entertainment and I’ve never seen anyone successfully make it more awful to watch than him, I’m glad that clown is gone, generally removed from being associated with LSU, and exposed as the shite coach he is after he went 3-33 or whatever at Kansas. Everything about him screamed arrogant, creepy prick to me, I have no clue how he fooled so many for so long

He deserves some credit for this, but keep in mind he gave the whole fan base like 6 mental disorders.
Tbh, I think I actually hold Ed O in higher esteem. Like others have said, amazing we survived — I know Saban was surely sad to see him go lol.

Agree on that point. I was comparing LSU outcomes, how they ended up as coaches and the fact they had straying interests.

It is obvious that Saban had LSU in awesome shape when he left and I feel that just about any decent coach could've had success.
He lost me with the 2011 NC game. Personally I think Lee should've started, but he went back to Jefferson. The worst part about it is the hard headed idiot wouldn't try something different.
After that game he seemed to go downhill. He and the OCs kept going after dual threat QB's that weren't passers. Our passing game was terrible under Les and nothing ever changed. But then you start seeing the other crap that was going on and of course we knew there was a lot of coddling players when they got in trouble. But I guess that happens everywhere.

I feel the same about your whiny chicken little arse and this board. Grow a set.

Let's be honest, this thread was created just to shite on Les. If you were really just curious, you could have searched one of the 9,000 other threads on this same topic. Most of the people bashing him for "cheating" praise Will Wade.
Dude was an excellent coach for LSU who led LSU to heights it had never been. Even his "down" years were above average compared to many. He had his flaws but he won a lot of games and led LSU to its greatest run of success.
