Lol. I'm not letting you off for lazy posting.
Show me the northern states that banned slavery after June 19, 1865.

It should never have become a national holiday. Just more pandering and trinkets. It doesn't help the nation in any way.

I have no problem with a holiday to celebrate the end of slavery.
The only question would have been which event would best be recognized?
I like the Juneteenth story. It is a reminder of both the 19th century and what a jubilee really should be about.

So when is Patriots Day going to be a national holiday?
Is that too white?

I’m 40 and from West Texas. I never once heard about it as a holiday but we definitely covered the Galveston landing post emancipation proclamation.
I move to East/Central Texas which has a much higher black density and I heard about for the first time probably 15 years ago. I had a friend at TXDoT and that dude would get off for every Texas holiday imaginable. Texas Independence, confederate heroes day, and Juneteenth.
I think him talking about getting off is the first time I remember it being a holiday.
Definitely regional and it’s emergence is definitely a recent phenomenon.

1. My comments this morning were just to ruffle some white folks feelings early in the morning. It was so easy to do. Happy Juneteenth!
2. George Floyd... Was the incident what, didn't really get what you were asking?
Could that whole thing have gone another way? Yes.
Was it still wrong? Yes.
Should it lead to riots and deaths? No.
Is that consequence of the same thing happening continuously for decades? Maybe.
Was Derek Chauvin convicted as harshly as he was as an example? Yes.
Each one of those replies, is a problematic answer in this country, from racism, to abuse of police authority, to the abuse of the the Bill of Rights by citizens, to political scapegoats. America ain't ever been great for everybody. We all just making do best we can cause ANY OF US can end up victim to any of those or one of the other problem in our imperfect union. (Founding Fathers set out to create a MORE perfect union, was never perfect).
Which is why Im selfish. I'm black, proud, love my community but they make dumb decisions as well, and when they do, they won't have my support. But understanding, my ancestors here on this land after July 2, 1776 were not free to do as they please until January 1st, 1863 and some still enslaved after until the Union came through because...Louisiana and Texas, no matter what day its celebrated on, its real and important and should having meaning to everyone in this country because it celebrates the day we should all see each other as equals because July 4 does not. It celebrates this nation saying we can run ourselves and this is how we will go about it and that's all, nothing more. Problem is, that's why Juneteenth is funny or meaningless or ghetto or whatever you want to call it, because deep down, you don't think we are equal.

That’s really cool and all. And totally ignores the waves of migration that happened into the US post 1865.
I know you’re not really concerned with anything beside your tribal view and trolling.

No, that includes that as well. Juneteenth means the end of ANYONE in this country being considered less than that of anyone else. After that EVERYONE is supposed to be equal, but didn't happen that way, for blacks, for Irish, Italian, Jewish and Asian immigrants either but that's the way it was SUPPOSED to be following Emancipation Day. Again, America, gotta be forced at times to uphold its own values, always has been problematic, always will be. That's not trolling.

Wait a minute. Am I understanding this correctly, that this is the African Americans new independence day?
Does this mean, that group of people will no longer have anything to do with the rest of the country, as far as celebrations with the actual real Independence Day/4th of July?

Suggesting that less than 1% of the population had any interest in it is a bit of a stretch. But I don't blame you or anyone else for lack of knowledge.
I'm sure you could provide links to support your assertion that interest is much higher than 1% that date back a couple of decades, right?

Late 40s. Raised in Tx. Heard of the holiday as a kid, but my family and extended never celebrated it.
I knew some blacks (not from TX) who felt we should be angry our ancestors were freed 2yrs too late rather than celebrate it.
I knew of Opal Lee pushing to make it a holiday. I never thought it would happen since it’s really a TX holiday. But with the recent events, the perfect storm was there and bam, it’s a federal holiday.
I didn’t celebrate it this year, but I don’t feel need to rip on those who did. Just like I don’t care for President’s Day and Columbus Day.

If a white man said "My comments this morning were just to ruffle some black folks feelings early in the morning"
you frickers would want him persecuted by the mob, thrown in jail for hate crimes and a national day of mourning called by all sporting authorities.
Youre not a credit to your race.

Do you believe any of that's accurate? That they were "freed later"?

Yes, I do believe that. Thought it couldn’t be true, but just a bit of research shows it is true. It’s documented, but is just more of history that isn’t taught in school. And for anyone that isn’t black, I can understand why you’ve never heard of it since you’ve been taught the emancipation freed the slaves and equality has been in place since then.

Thank for saying that, now imagine. Jason Whitlock is me, I'm the 'white folk' and this forum were bystanders egging on the confrontation by supporting his constant pandering against his own race.
You can say I'm not a credit to my race but the fact I'm laughing at the reaction to my post because I knew the exact reaction I'd get, just proves we already know who most of you are inside, you don't have to show us. I just took advantage of the ignorance and racism.
Don't be such an easy mark!

Nope, they entered 'free' slavery or sharecropping but that's some whole other bs.

I don’t need to provide links. If you really wanted to educate yourself and not throw out absurd assumptions you do it.

According to some posters here we need a cop to kill a white person and then it can become recognized.
Posted on 6/22/23 at 3:24 pm to sdc74
What? Cops kill way more whites than blacks even with the slant in violent crimes.

You are an a-hole just like everyone else. White, Black, Brown, Red, or Yeller. Color doesn't matter.
