Cameron said he went 3 times deeper than the Titanic in a sub he made himself. He said the material the Titan was made of has no business in deep sea excursions.

Didn’t the same thing do it multiple times before?

What does that matter, when each subsequent attempt is less safe than the previous?

It's obvious you can't build a hull out of carbon fiber. Especially for deep sea dives. Titanium is used for deep sea submarines.
. Also this was the only deep sea sub that had been built to hold 5 people. Usually they hold 1-2 and the very most 3.
The CEO, and company, ignored the guidelines and thought they could build a sub faster and cheaper. Guidelines are put in place for a reason. In every industry

If I recall SpaceX moved from using carbon fiber overwrapped pressure vessels to stainless steel simply because it proved too difficult to determine if there were structural flaws in the composite. This would also entail a difficulty in assessing fatigue in these structures, so that’s definitely an issue when you plan on taking multiple trips and placing your vessel under load repeatedly as in the case of this submarine.

But my main gripe is just the fact that the structure wasn’t homogenous. The titanium end caps being adhered to the carbon fiber matrix seems like an obvious point of failure.

It’s honestly surprising this vehicle was legal to operate.

When, if ever, will we get pictures of the debris field?

Using previous experience and expertise. Military experience would be good since they “ perfected” submarines.

If you are going to start re-engineering a submarine like you are “ Bubba “ in the shop. You better keep the damn thing in the pond on the Back 40.

One of the passengers was on his 38th trip to Titanic if I recall.

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse.

OceanGate CEO once said Titan sub's hull was made with carbon fiber from Boeing that was past its airplane shelf life, would-be passenger says

Would be interested to see what vessels were in the area beginning late Sun into mid afternoon Monday.

Vesseltracker has preliminary details but someone above my pay grade could assemble it.

It wasn't his 38th trip on Titan, it was his 38th trip in his lifetime.

Weissmann wrote that he was due to board the Titan to view the Titanic in May but the trip was stopped by weather

From the article you linked. Could you imagine the people that were supposed to be on the canceled May voyage realizing if the weather had been good, they would likely have been in Titan when the vessel finally gave way to the pressure.

The $15 controller can handle 5500 pounds of pressure?! Lmao

I watched a video earlier from a guy called Sub Brief on YT. He showed stills from a video about the construction of the vessel and he showed how they wove the carbon fiber.

They did not do it in the expected fashion where it was woven in multiple overlapping layers going diagonally across the length of the hull. Instead they wrapped it around like they were rolling up a roll of tape.

Knowing the CEO they probably did it in this fashion to save money and time. He didn't have time to do things correctly, he only had time to get people to give up a quarter of a million of dollars per trip.

Additionally it turns out they once had radio communications on previous missions and tests. The CEO demanded they do away with that because he did not want to be "bothered" with update requests and other items when on his trips. This is why they had such a rudimentary system setup in later missions.

I'm convinced this guy just found a way to get others to pay for his dopamine hit of going down to the depths of the ocean and really cared little about anything else. It wasn't about seeing a historic ship wreck or about pushing the science of deep sea diving further along, it was all about him getting his feel good kick and he got himself and 4 others killed doing it.

There's a seismogram showing something happened. Nothing about it says Oceangate Titan.

There are enough subs out there moving drugs around the continents and many pictures are out there of the subs caught with drugs.

I'd argue for the several days it took to be sure the implosion was one that happened under the so called research vessel and not one making a drug delivery.
