This does not equate. You need cipro/flagyl
I've only been prescribed when I had sigmoid colitis...and I was stopped up.
When I have a diverticulitis flair up, as long as I change my diet it subsides in a few days.
And yes I know the two are closely related.

If blood tests do not indicate an infection, the antibiotics are not necessary. The infection or other trigger has passed and now the inflammation and damage need time to heal.

Only recently have I given up eating nuts.
Pretty sure it was popcorn that set me off this time, and maybe last time too.
New popcorn machine at work, guess I'll have to walk on past now.

by that I assume you mean the squadron bar, hard to pass up that fresh popped corn when it's within ten feet of a beer tap

Thanks. Doc said liquid diet could help, and it is the weekend...

Sorry bro. Nobody ever mentioned diverticulosis to me over the years.
My stepmother literally can't eat certain foods or she has a flair up every time whereas I can still eat whatever.

No beer tapped since COVID, really. Killed the hang around the bar vibe. But the fresh corn, with jalapenos smells up the whole building.

My first experience was when I was 37 and the worst. Having my 3rd bout this year as we speak, which makes about my 9th or 10th one in 8 years. Just had my 2nd colonoscopy in 4 years. Scheduling a colon resection in early August. Tired of the constant pain. Colonoscopy shows it is a small part of my sigmoid colon causing the issues. Doc normally prescribes Amoxicillin Clav since Cipro doesn't agree with me well. No eating and tylenol this time.

Dang, you're setting the bar high. I hope you get that crap worked out soon. This is no fun and I'd be at my whits end if I was on your schedule.
Any idea what sets yours off?

If the CT scan shows an active infection, I always call in abx. I sure don't want it progressing to an abscess because that has happened before.

I drink a glass of Metamucil every morning.
Helps a great deal.

Just got over my second bout of it in two years. They put me on Cipro and Flagyl (Which you can absolutely not drink on). Both together are awful and takes days for me to get over the antibiotics. If it is bad enough, pain-wise, they'll give me something for that.

Try taking a probiotic daily, like Phillips Colon Health. It helps. Haven’t had a flare up in years.

Ive had a few flare ups the past 2 years. Last august it caused my colon to perforate and had to have 1’ of colon removed and woke up with an Ileostomy bag. I don’t try to push through flare ups anymore, that ostomy bag for 3 months was horrible.

There are two schools of thought. One says not to eat nuts or seeds. The other says to eat what you want and take antibiotics. The strong antibiotics can make you miserable too.
My BiL had it, and died from it. He changed his diet, but put off dealing with it until his gut busted. See a doctor and stay on top of it.

No clear pattern that I have been able to discern. No clear inflammation on Colonoscopy last Friday then start having pain on Tuesday. Take a fiber drink every morning and try to eat high fiber foods. Still have my fair share of meat and alcohol though, which doesn't help. Living without meat and bourbon isn't really living though...

I can usually feel a flare up coming on. I try to stop eating solid food and go liquid diet. Bone broth with turmeric and shite like that. Anti inflammatory stuff that’s easy on the stomach. It could last a few days. Tylenol helped a lot when it was really bad. I try to avoid taking it because it takes a toll on the liver.
ETA: I think Metamucil in the morning helps prevent flare ups
