I started having abdominal pain Tuesday night, finally went to Doc yesterday, got to drink some delicious banana flavored barium treats and had a CT scan. Acute Diverticulitis. I knew I have Diverticulosis from my colonoscopy, but I unlocked a new feature this week.

No antibiotics prescribed, but when will feeling that I'm carrying a 10 pound rock in my gut subside? I'm hoping to have some fun this holiday weekend.

I don't think I'd ever heard of this until I had a colonoscopy but shortly after I had it I experienced the pain you're describing, I went to see my primary care doc(PA,) and he immediately made the diagnosis(which I thought was hasty,) and he prescribed antibiotics, that stayed with me a couple of weeks, I went a couple of years before it flared up again, I didn't bother to go to the doc and it passed after a couple of days, hope this is the case for you, good luck

My mother dealt with this off and on over the years.
Got antibiotics and ended up feeling terrible about a week each episode.

Had a stabbing pain in stomach last September. Thought it was a kidney stone at first since the pain was radiating south. Got a scan and it turns out to be DVT. It sucks and lasted for a week. I initially changed my diet but now I pretty much eat what I want. At least I will know in the future what it is if it comes back....very painful.

I have a flare up about every two years. The worts part is the antibiotic Flagyl that they usually put me on. Can't drink on it and it makes a metallic taste in your mouth. I tried Amoxycillin once and it didn't knock it out like the Flagyl.

Do you still have pain? Lower left side? Does it hurt when you press on that location?

I don't think prescribing antibiotics is SOP anymore.

I suffer from it. It's fricking awful. I keep some cipro on hand now and I start taking it as soon as I feel an episode coming on. Usually subsides within a few days and doesn't reach peak pain levels. Before I started this routine it used to last a week, sometimes longer. Best of luck!

Diverticulosis upgraded to Diverticulitis.

losis = pockets in the intestines
litis = those pockets are filled with something and it's pissed off.

It will subside in a few days. Eat stomach friendly food.

Lay off the seeds and nuts permanently.

Yep, I had a similar episode in 2021, the night before the first AU home game. Already had $ in a tailgate, tickets and it was the only year I was going to have 2 kids as students there. I didn't sleep at all and felt like I had a cannon ball in my stomach. I powered thru and went to the game regardless. It passed eventually.

This time the Dr was able to get me the CT scan while I was in pain. I'm not sure why no antibiotics, except most flt docs are always "take some Motrin," until your near death.

Diverticulosis is bad. Ie worse than diverticulitis.

I don't think you had that.

Eta I think if you have diverticulosis, you'll experience chronic diverticulitis. I can count on 1 hand how many flair ups I've had in over 20 years and I didn't change my diet. Only recently have I given up eating nuts.

This does not equate. You need cipro/flagyl

Uh you might want a second opinion there bud because it sounds like you didn't even get proper discharge instructions.

Just call your doc back.

It is in your best interest to take it easy on your digestive system for 2-3 weeks. Easily digestable foods, low fiber, etc.

Ok, I'll let the radiologist, my gastroenterologist, and my doctor know that the CT scan and colonoscopy is some bullshite, and dkreller said he thinks I'm good.

Fairly certain diverticulosis is step 1 for diverticulitis.
