you think people looking over the side of the boat have less chance of seeing a shark than a bad video?
No. I don't think anyone had a chance to see a shark. My guess at what happened has nothing to do with everyone's inability to see what's in the water.

Years ago I was on a pier in Gulf Shores and saw hundreds no problem at night. I took a video to show friends and couldn't see shite

It certainly wasn't fully intact.

What's your theory?

Most likely drowned but I don’t rule out shark attack as a possibility

but attacks are still relatively rare.
They are. But at night in open water when they feed increases those chances quite a bit.

I read on-line that the victim's name was Vladimir Popov.
In the early 1990s, Alex Popov was considered the fastest swimmer in the world after winning 2 gold medals at the Barcelona games. He later had a son named Vladimir, who would be around the same age as the guy in the video who died. I wonder if this is Alex Popov's son.

I have been snorkeling 3 times, Maui and the Keys, and got close enough to a shark to feel uncomfortable, twice. It is odd to go out on a paid excursion, and you have this sense of safety, until you realize you are in their world and their are no guarantees.
Bull sharks are probably the biggest concern on our coast. We have kayaks and are thinking about getting paddleboards. A kayak has more stability, should something decide to be "interested" in our watercraft. I refuse to wade out farther than knee-deep (not that the Gulf gets very deep on our side for a long time).
I remember reading, when I was in college that Bull sharks could make their way in to Lake Maurepas, where we always skied and wakeboarded. While waited to be pulled up, on the river, I always prayed I wouldn't get bit by a: shark, snake, gator or gar.

They really caught the shark and killed it? Lol wtf he was just being a shark, not it’s fault.
He was a good boy he dindu nuffin?
correct me if i'm wrong, but If you want a lone wolf type predator gone, esp one that has already gotten a meal of livestock or human, you can either kill it or remove it's food supply, else it will come back and snoop around looking for more like most predators do.
Jaws had the same premise, and since they aren't closing the beach, the shark must die.

Can you consider the amount of time in a persons life spent driving to the beach and then time spent swimming in the ocean? And then compare risk?
FIFY based on what I actually said
