I wouldn’t mind pitching Skenes game 2 with or without weather. LSU murdered Kentucky pitching so LSU’s offense will do enough to get a win in game 1. It’s not like Kentucky has a big time ace you have to worry about.

This is not Tulane. He will pitch Saturday
These two sentences don’t make sense back to back because Skenes pitched against Tulane

That’s kind of the issue though - we have a huge advantage in starting pitching and we don’t want the stupid “lightning detected in the area” to negate that.

I believe he is saying that there isn’t a debate on if he will start game 1. Many people didn’t think he would start game 1 last weekend because it was against Tulane. He’s saying Kentucky is much better than Tulane and that’s why Skenes is definitely going to start Saturday. I least I think that’s what he’s trying to say

Outside of 2012 when Guasman was held until game 2 the ace starts game 1 of the Super. But those two sentences/explanation are flawed since Skenes pitched against a team worse than Kentucky.
Thinking Kentucky is better than Oregon State and saying something like “This isn’t Oregon State. Skenes will start game 1.” would make sense, not Tulane.

Percentage chance on weather.com has dropped from 58% to 34%. Keep going down baby!

Tonight the rain forecast has bumped up on Saturday PM rain forecast to 50% chance while Sunday is only 20% (Monday is only 10% but obviously not a factor in this particular discussion about Skenes).
Does Jay possibly hold Skenes back to Sunday to not risk a big delay in Game 1 that would ultimately cost LSU another long Skenes outing like he had last Friday? 2-5 pm in the afternoon is sort of prime daytime Thunderstorm hours due to daytime heating etc.
After last weekend, would anyone be shocked? Especially because this choice seems WAY less risky in the sense that you have to win 2 out of only 3 games however you get there so the opportunity cost holding Skenes back till Sunday seems much less weighty than it potentially could have been last week.
2 of the 3 Hi-Res models don't show any rain near BR through out Sat afternoon
One shows showers late evening

Everything I am seeing is saying backdoor cold front approaching south Louisiana tomorrow going to increase chances for strong storms and widespread rain Saturday afternoon—not just typical summer afternoon pop-up showers.
Jay would be crazy not to adjust the pitching rotation to play those odds in his favor as straight analytical as he seems to play it lately.

Right now, Saturday has the least chance of rain.

The hourly forecast shows zilch for Saturday

Depends on where you do your weather shopping.
Accuweather shows at least 40 percent every hour in the afternoon.
Weather.com shows next to nothing all day Saturday and Sunday.
This is Louisiana weather in June in a nutshell. No one really knows.

it's going to rain, just a matter of when.

Did you see/read Johnson’s post-regional interview? He said the weather was the main factor in choosing when to pitch Skenes.
The chance of rain on the Thursday and Friday forecasts for Saturday was non existent

I did not see him say this, but he did mention two times that he does consult someone on the weather. He said the main reason he started Skenes was to start out the regional on a high note and get everyone else settled in. Basically setting the tone for the regional. And it absolutely worked out for the best.

Don’t confuse % chsnce of rain with the projected amount or duration of rain. 100% chance of rain often times can mean a sprinkle and a 10% chance can mean a 3 inch deluge.

I wouldn’t hate raining coming around 1:30, and pushing the game back to 5 or so… get a semi night game in the box!
Posted on 6/9/23 at 9:54 am to Quatrepot
if there is any chance of stopping the game because of rain, Skeens will not pitch Saturday. book it!

I wouldnt be so sure. With all games televised this weekend, there will be a lot more pressure from ESPN to keep the game going for 2pm first pitch.
And as its been said already in here, its up to the NCAA in the postseason.. and ESPN will be in their ear.
