The age(s) between 75 and 85/90 are the worst.

In recent years due to my elderly (now passed) parents hitting landmark ages and due to things like other important people in my life, lawyer, local doctor, neighbor, favorite teacher, older folks from church, I have been to quite a few "It's so and so's 75th birthday party" events. I am not exagerrating when I say I have been to a dozen of them.
They all have one thing in common, almost without exception the 75 year old is doing very well. You guys will have heard the term "Silver Fox". Nice tan, white hair, still rather okay in terms of moving about, might not play 18 but will swing the sticks on 9 holes or play some tennis at "the club". Goes out now and then to a show. Lives life. No-one is in a home, needs a wheelchair.
Ten years later my goodness. Of the dozen 85 year olds (ten years post 75 party) three or four are gone, another three or four are in assisted living and basically on the way out with something like dementia, another three or four live at home but if son or daughter didn't have that spare room it would be rough, and maybe at best three or four are 10 years more slower versions of their 85 year old selves.
I got 20 years to go until I hit that but geez, that is kinda scary.

So those within life expectancy thrive and those above need assistance. Wow

HGH, a little test, and some exercise

Breaking News...People near 90 have bodies that are braking down and nearing death. More updates tonight at 10.

There's a cliff you hit in your mid 70's where you loose muscle mass and activity levels. This is why it's critical to be in shape BEFORE that happens to mitigate the decline.

Those I’ve seen who stay active and keep their mind challenged seem to have more success. Once people lose a purpose they go down hill quick

Life expectancy is about 77. What you observe makes sense.
I recently went to a 50th high school reunion. 20% of that class had died.

52 is sucking pretty bad for me

It seems like a man goes through three transformational phases during his life: (1) puberty, (2) middle age and (3) old age.
All three of them hit hard and there's no going back.

As much as people get tired of hearing about it, sports like Pickleball are really good for seniors. You can burn a lot of calories and get a good workout if you play it competitively.

Careful - the majority of posters on this board will be there in 20 years.

People who live past 77 are on borrowed time. Life could become a struggle at any moment.

That's pretty cool that you noticed you start to get weaker as you get older. Thanks for the update.

I'm almost 82, so looks like I will start slowing down in about three years. But you do know, don't you, that none of us are going to get out of here alive?

Yep my mom is 87. Doesn't take any prescription pills, gets a shot for RA a couple of times a year. Still active but has Alzheimers. She can't function like normal because she doesn't remember one day from the next and has paranoia. She thinks someone comes in her apt and rearranges things at night. She thinks people are spying on her through the sprinkler head. It's devastating to see her this way.

Damn. My folks are 73 & 72. Reality check to make the most of the time while we have it.

7th grade was the worst for me. 8th grade right there too

My gramps was going pretty good until he got the pancreatic cancer diagnosis at 84. Couple months later he was gone. Considering the alternatives that doesn't seem too bad. Granny on the other hand had a lot of cognitive decline the last several years and lived with severe arthritic pain. Hurt her to even eat. She was gone within the end of the year after gramps.
Life's pretty scary.

If you're lucky, you have two options, either rust out or wear out. I choose the latter.
My father is 83, can launch his boat, go fishing, clean fish, pick up and wash the boat. He gets tired fairly easily, but in my opinion, impressive for his age.
You have to fight like hell the older you get.
