Honestly this is impossible answer and you or I will ever know. So there’s literally no reason to ponder it.

Meh. I'm not 100% sure you do. I continue to contemplate whether or not this is all as simulation (me included) or that the universe is just my imagination (yeah, yeah, "running away with me"). Those are at least as likely as actual, literal existence as physicists and chemists try to describe.

I mean, the quantum mechanics observer effect, by itself, almost certainly proves there are certain manipulations underlying our perceived reality that makes simulation at least as likely as literal existence.

Easy.

The source of all natural phenomena was tired of being bored. Therefore a program was written to amuse the creator and the result is the material universe.

The program’s code has a major subroutine to reward novelty. This requires the subroutine to obscure the results to amuse the creator.

So go do interesting things with your resources, time and creativity and be rewarded.

Why do we exist at all? At best the origin of our being doesn’t need us.

At worst, the origin of our being doesn’t want us, which is obviously not true as we exist and the origin of our being could have prevented it.

So we are either mere objects of observation and pleasure or we are meant for something else, something greater than ourselves.

Why are you allowed to even breath today?
These are interesting questions, but what say you about "zero ontology" - that is, why is there something instead of nothing?

quote:

David Pearce has described a proposal which outlines an explanation space within which the question "Why is there something instead of nothing?" can be given a legitimate answer. This is how he describes his endeavour, and he makes it clear that his ideas are purely speculative. He does not have a straightforward answer to the question, nor even a theory. All that he has is a sketch of what a theory which "explains existence" might be like, and how it might arrive at its conclusions. While I must admit that I find his sketch compelling in many ways, there are problems and paradoxes lurking in the very idea that one could explain why the world exists. In the case of Pearce's proposal, the explanation takes the form of showing that there is (in a sense) nothing to explain. As such, it is similar to necessitarian responses to the problem, which claim that there is no alternative to the existence of the world since something - God, for example - exists as a matter of logical necessity. Pearce does not exactly endorse a traditional necessitarian theory, but he comes awfully close. In my opinion, there is a recognition of balance and proportion in his thesis which makes his thesis more appealing than any reliance upon a deus-ex-machina.

The true answer to that seems beyond our mental capacity but we can catch brief glimpses of the divine through love, nature, innovation, creativity, etc.

And without pain, suffering, and other negative aspects of life, we would never truly appreciate the joys, beauty, and wonder.

Enjoy the ride.

To have a relationship with our creator, and to help others have a relationship with the creator. That is our sole reason for existing. God made you to have a relationship with you. But the choice to have that relationship is ours to make.

Pretty shitty "choice" he gives you, huh?

The question isn't just why do humans exist, or why does life exist, but why is there anything at all instead of nothing?

If you say because there's a creator or because we're in a simulation, then why does the creator exist, or whoever is running the simulation? (Same thing, really.)

And what would it actually mean for there to be nothing?

Good post.
I would respectfully add:
Romans 8:29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

So you have appointed yourself as the judge of God and then found Him lacking?
Not sure that will work out very well for you.
My reading indicates something about working out your plan with fear and trembling and I find that to be quite compelling.
