We have been on a steady downtrend since 2019. Hitting is abysmal. We haven't had a true ace pitcher in probably 4 to 5 years. In general the program has been completely stagnant.

Pitching under performed this year. You had an all American returning from injury and a 3 year weekend starter, numerous lefties to choose from, and a handful of veterans in the bullpen. Honestly thought this was one of the best staffs in a few years.
The question is how do you expect to win with 3 or 4 hits a game.
Maybe it’s time to change the recruiting philosophy of great defenders with speed to anything else.
Lions should have won 35 games this year.

Maybe he redshirted the wrong hitters. Kids were redshirted because older players were first in line. If you can hit you should play. If you can't hit, should be told to find another place to play

According to the AYS guy: Multiple SEC assistants, JUCO HCs, and Southland HCs are in the mix.
I think they're pissing in the wind for an SEC assistant. The money has gotten so far out of hand that assistants can wait until a power conference job opens up.
I don't know that there are any HCs in the Southland that are both better than Riser but also see SLU as an upgrade to where they are.

SLU should be the best team in the Southland, period. Proximity to BR/NO/ Northshore for talent and not far from about half of the MS JuCos. They should be able to recruit a lot of the kids in the area that don't get SEC/Tulane/USM offers.

say over McNeese and their proximty to the LC talent, Lafayette talent and the talent in SE Texas?
Mcneese has better coach too imo.

That's fine, but it doesn't change anything I said.
As someone else mentioned, Hill has zero reason to leave McNeese. They guy at Nicholls just won the conference at Nicholls, and is an alum. Why would he leave for a job that isn't an upgrade? Davis at Lamar isn't an upgrade. Dean isn't an upgrade.

I've heard the coach at meridian JC? Not sure how solid that is, but it came from someone that is close to the program.

As a senior, Sudduth was voted “Teammate of the Year” by his peers. Prior to his time in Hammond, Sudduth was a middle infielder for two years at MCC under Mike Federico, the current Louisiana-Monroe head coach and Chad Caillet the current top assistant at South Carolina.
Sudduth earned his degree in Business Management from Southeastern Louisiana and also holds an MBA from Delta State. He and his wife, Miranda, are the parents of one son, Walker.

SLU should get at least 3-4 MS JuCo players a year that don’t get SEC offers. I’ve watched a decent amount of their games this year and I know that there are enough of those kids out there that would be improvements in spots. Especially now with the transfer portal, not as many of those JuCo kids are going SEC to fill holes.

Riser or Gautreau would instantly upgrade Tulane

Given the supposed candidate pool, this makes more sense than anything else I've seen.

Both SLU and McNeese should run the SLC in every sport, which they kind of do. My biased opinion is SLU is the better job, but Hill ain’t leaving McNeese for SLU unless we give him a huge raise which we can’t do.

I mean it's baseball it always comes down to having players that can hit and pitch. You can't scheme around talent deficiency's like you can in football.
I get what you are saying from a macro level, but when your philosophy is to play small ball you can’t have your top hitter batting .293 and only 4 guys over .250. Riser isn’t in the batters box but the offensive output this year was non-existent, and as the head coach who does the recruiting the blame falls partially on him for that.

So something must've happened off the field.
Have friend that is pretty connected to most things SLU and this is what he said. Said he heard about it last week. Said he likes Riser but their were several off the field locker room things that did him in.

Moving the post count up to try and equal the one in the identical thread.

Same thing I’ve heard too. Hammond is still a small town in SELA. They can’t keep their mouths shut on any kind of scandalous behavior. It’ll come out eventually.
