In my opinion Brown was the greatest football player in history, regardless of position. If you watch the old game films, he would break tackles of all 11 guys on defense sometimes to take it to the house. Amazing!

Playing on a team and in an era which didn't pass the football much, everyone in the house knew he was going to get the football play after play. Defenses were geared for him only, and he still delivered an average of 5.2 yards per carry and 104 yards per game for EVERY game in his 10-year career.

In that regard, in my opinion, he joins Michael Jordan as the GOAT of his sport. Everyone knew that MJ was going to take the big shot at the end, but he delivered over and over.

And think of this- despite the constant pounding on every play Jim Brown NEVER missed one game in 10 years- which is unthinkable today. He would intentionally get up slowly after every play so the opposition would not know whether or not he was injured.

Jim Brown embodied what the game of football has always been about- physical and mental toughness. I hope the current and future generations of young football fans can come to appreciate how great he really was.

They interviwed Dick Butkus yesterday about the greatest backs he faced. Said Jim Brown of course, also mentioned Jimmy Taylor.

So hard to make that statement. He was the best rb of his time. The game and athlete quality changed so much as the decades progressed this GOAT talk is useless. Would he have broke tackles like that against the steel curtain? 85 Bears?? Early 2000’s Ravens?? Is rb harder to play than qb?? LT?? MLB?? CB??

Jim Brown is one of those rare players who could be dropped into the game in any era and dominate.

It's pretty noticeable that Brown is the only non-QB to win multiple MVPs and he won three of them. A RB winning three MVPs is the equivalent of a pitcher winning three MVPs in baseball. A pitcher needs to have a historically great season to win a MVP in baseball. A pitcher winning three MVPs would take something extraordinary and absolutely put them in the GOAT conversation. That's basically what Jim Brown did in the NFL.

Greatest NFL RB, definitely Jim Brown.

Greatest NFL player ever? In the discussion. Was he as dominant as Rice, Brady, Manning, etc?

I personally think Jerry Rice is the overall greatest player in the NFL, that's just my opinion( and many others as well) but I thought Brown was superman when I was a kid.

As a Raider fan I was actually excited about the rumors of him joining the team at 50.

Brown was basically the equivalent of what would happen if you dropped Adrian Peterson into the mid 1960s NFL.

Exactly. This isn't one of your garden variety "great athletes". This guy was in the Thorpe-ian, Bo Jackson type athlete. Really, really ahead of his time as a genetic athletic specimen. For his era he was equivalent to Wilt Chamberlain in terms of unfair athletic/size advantage. arse of a human but the genuine article as an athletic "freak".

Don’t ever put manning or Brady in the same sentence with Jerry rice…

Now if you want to put LT and Jim brown with Rice we can talk.
