Just found out an old co-worker of mine drank himself to death & was found by his step-brother after they couldn't contact him for a few days. His family tried to put him rehab a few times and it never stuck. Is it addiction or suicide?

Hadn't talked to him in years, and I saw a picture of him about a year ago and he was yellow and thin - went from a solid engineering dude - cut 200 lbs to a raggedy 140ish.

Early 50s, divorced almost 20 years ago and his kids were out of the house. Things started slipping and there's wasn't a solution at the bottom of a bottle.

poor dude, that seems like a terrible way to go.

Several actually. Sadly they all realized they were dying but it was too late.

Yes I lost three friends in the past two years to liver failure due to drinking too much. Each went to rehab and couldn't kick it. Died painful deaths in ICU.

One guy at work I knew literally drank himself to death (alcohol poisoning)

The OP description was similar to this guy. He drank a lot and lost a ton of weight up until he retired. He was bragging about how he was going to live in his family's lake house up in Michigan. Just a few weeks after he retired, he was found by family members and appeared to have died of alcohol poisoning. Sad deal, and I wondered if he committed suicide, but I don't believe he did.
