No it's not, it's their best produced and most commercial. It's an important album, but it divides more than any other album and that alone eliminates it. It's their last great album though, imo. I didn't like load, but I do like "Until it sleeps" as a song.

Master is generally loved by most all fans. I think my personal favorite is Kill em All.

I think it depends on what album introduced you to Metallica and what your taste in music was when you did. Somebody mentioned the band "Metallica" as their favorite band when I was in 9th grade in 1998. I thought the name sounded cool so I started listening to the radio waiting on a Metallica song, and it was Turn the Page when it was the new single. I was hooked from that one song even though I had no idea it was a cover. I went to Load after that and to this day my favorite Metallica song is Until It Sleeps.

I wasn't a metalhead or thrash fan, but I worked my backwards to Black and then the first 4. The first 4 introduced me to that kind of prog thrash metal which I got into when I started playing guitar because it was fun as hell to play. But being a 90s kid those 4 albums that decade plus No Leaf Clover will always be my shite
