That being said does this guy really think they are going to bring in 3 MILLION people!?

He did not say over what time frame. Looking at last year attendance records, they managed to be last in the league with 4,600 people per game for a total of 188.6k people. In 16 years they may hit that 3M mark.

*Looks like the 2nd worse franchise still managed 640k people (~17k per game) last year

They averaged 4,600 because they’re temporarily playing in a smaller venue, to be fair.

That makes sense, how long have they been playing there because it looks like they were also last in the league by a good margin during the 21-22 season.

They’re typically in the bottom 3 in league attendance. But it’s not a 10,000 seat deficit like this year’s attendance would imply.

The yotes could be successful in Phoenix. Their ownership has not pulled their weight over the last decade and they’ve botched drafts and traded young talent at an unprecedented rate for minimal returns.

The irony if the original Winnipeg Jets move to Atlanta.

The project is a $2.1 Billion development with two hotels, practice rink, concert hall, upscale shopping, restaurants, and several residential towers.

It’s adjacent to Tempe Town Lake which has had 2.4 Million visitors since opening in late 1999. It’s located directly between downtown Phoenix and ASU. There’s nothing implausible about that claim. He’s not specifically talking about the 17k seat arena.

Since the Winnipeg Jets have already been resurrected, perhaps they bring back the Nordiques or Whalers.

Houston should get a team and use the baby blue red and white.

That's not gonna happen in a league that already has the Edmonton Oilers...

I think it will pass. Even if it doesn't, I have heard Mereullo will just build on the Indian reservation. The owner and the league have no interest leaving. And Atlanta doesn't make sense anyway. The alignment gets jacked up unless there's another expansion team that enters the picture with them.

The NHL Commissioner is all in on having a team in Arizona. Prying the team out would be very, very difficult. This vote would have to fail and literally every other plan would have to fail as well for it to happen.

Also… a new team for Quebec would be very low on his wish list. We might like the idea. He doesn’t.

The most likely candidates for expansion/relocation are Atlanta (I know, I know… but it’s actually #1 on the list), Houston, Kansas City, Portland, and Salt Lake City. They aren’t big on Canadian expansion, but if they go that route I see Hamilton and even a second Toronto team coming in before Quebec.

I would love to see Quebec get a team again. But even though they have an arena ready to go, the powers that be in the NHL don’t see them as a growth market. That’s the reason why they love Atlanta and Houston… all the people in Quebec are already hockey fans. The people in Atlanta and Houston are future hockey fans. And there’s a lot more of them than in Quebec.

Everything you said is spot on. As much as I would like to see Quebec City get an expansion team, they already support the league. Putting a new team there doesn't generate nearly the revenue that Houston and Atlanta will. 99% of nostalgic noobs with no business sense on YouTube and Twitter can't come to grips with this. Kraken ownership shelled out $650M for a team just a few years after the Golden Knights wrote a $500M check for expansion. I anticipate the next round of expansion will cost at least $800M. The only question is how soon does the league expand? 5 years? 10 years? And how much will it expand by? 2 teams? Or 4 teams?
