Bud Light's Situation Getting Worse as Time Goes On; Miller and Coors Triumph

May 2, 2023: Boycott not stopping - Independent Journal Review

quote:
“The shocking deterioration of Bud Light Blue’s market share continued apace through the third week of April — and actually somehow worsened. We’ve never seen such a dramatic shift in national share in such a short period of time,” Beer Business Daily reported on its subscribers-only website, according to Barron’s.
So how bad is it? Sales were down 26.1 percent from 2022 for the week that ended April 29. Sales had been down 21.2 percent the week before.

The Beer Business Daily report said that the results of three weeks were enough to pull sales for all of 2023 down 8 percent.
The report noted that beer drinkers are not giving up beer, just Bud Light.
Coors Light sales were up 13.3 percent over 2022 in the third week of April. Miller Lite sales rose 13.6 percent, the report said.

Williams said Anheuser-Busch marketing vice president Alissa Gordon Heinerscheid, who is currently on leave, made two mistakes. One was moving away from her core customer and the second was her tone.
“Her big miss was I don’t think she understood who the core Bud Light shopper was. When she came out with her comments, they were deemed as being derogatory, insulting and juvenile. And the Bud Light drinkers said ‘Enough of that,’” Williams said.
Williams was not upbeat on the company’s ability to recover.
“Right now their compass is completely broken. There’s no game plan,” he said.
In some places, the declines have been larger than the country as a whole.
In the New York City area, Bud Light sales at the grocery chain Stew Leonard’s are down 50 percent, according to the New York Post.
Meanwhile, Coors Light sales have jumped the same percentage, said Andrew Hollis, Stew Leonard’s director of grocery.
“Since the publicity over the transgender issue, we’ve seen Coors Light outselling Bud Light for the first time,” he said.

Just imagine this took place in 1992.
Miller Lite would have come out with an ad with a bunch of dudes dressed in dresses drinking Bud Light at a bar, and then a bunch of actual men come in, see them, grimace, and buy Miller Lite's.
And it would have been fricking glorious...

It was horrible beer anyway, but I'm glad people are standing up for this.

BL will never recover. The cultural stigma associated with BL makes it too toxic to choose as a beer when there are too many easy alternatives. Socially you will be an outcast being seen with a BL beer in your hand unless you are making a joke out of the situation.
IMO about the best BL can do is about 20% of its former self after the dust settles.

It seems like the obvious solution has been lost on everybody at Budweiser:
MAKE BEER THAT TASTES GOOD
MAKE BEER THAT TASTES GOOD

It's such an easy boycott too. All you have to do is buy the Coors Lite or Miller Lite 5 feet away.

what's amazing is that AB possesses the keys to their own prison but they just refuse to use them. stunning, really.

The fact that this idiot VP chick has not been fired yet is telling.

And this is where people begin to notice the uncanny similarities between how the fake news media operates and how that propaganda is reinforced by corporations who are also in on the game.
Burn. It. Down.
Burn. It. Down.

She was ordered to give the Code Red.
Her bosses are on the hook too.
I assume right now multiple attorneys—hers included—are … in discussions.

They are just slow rolling it to avoid more bad press. She will be offered a rep job in the Dombas region then reach a mutual parting of ways.

Agreed that it’s swill.
But it’s always been swill. Sales aren’t down because they changed the recipe.

And I said
"Barmaid, set us up a round of that Colorado Kool-Aid
"And while you're up there
Bring this big fella, here a box of Band-Aids."

Only surprising part of the article is how hard it’s been hit in NYC.

The only reason they haven't yet is to not piss off the LGBTQ++++++////////********* community. There's no one she'll still be there in a year.

This. Failure of these proportions used to mean instant firing

Do they though? I don't think they can put the toothpaste back in the tube on this one. Had they done damage control early on, they could have limited the damage better than this, but at this point, I think the market share is flat gone. If they came out and made any statement at this point, it wouldn't be perceived as genuine. Just more posturing that got them into the current situation. I don't drink any of those brands of beer, so I'm not boycotting, but enjoying the show anyways.

There's a decently sized market for beer that tastes basically like nothing. There likely always will be. You don't have to be part of that market to recognize that it exists or to even acknowledge there isn't necessarily anything wrong with that fact.
Anyone interested in making money would kill to have such a market. A few companies recognized it and took advantage of it a long time ago. The few that succeeded perfectly positioned themselves through a large manufacturing, distribution, and marketing framework. We are witnessing ONE famously piss it all away in epic fashion.

If you are protesting AB, you shouldn’t skimp on protesting Coors:
